2000 LX 4cyl Check Engine Light
Yes, I searched recent and archived topics and loooked at each one, not my situation.
My wife has a 2000 Accord LX, 4cyl 5 speed. The car has 81,xxx miles on it. I changed the oil in it about a week ago. She called me this morning after she got to work and told me that on the way in her check engine light came on. Anything I should check myself before taking it to a shop? The weather this morning was wet cold and icy.

you mention about oil change earlier, perhap check the oil level and check for any sight of leak. You got the right kinda oil right? 20w

Never pulled a code on a car, always heard of it, but never had a CEL come on and need to learn how, anyone tell me what to do?
No leaking oil.
Gas cap should be on tight, never fill up with engine running.

I have a 98 accord LX 5 spd. Around 90k mi. My check engine light came on. It ended up being the O2 sensor.
First step would be code readings.

You have to connect pins 8 and 13 on the data link connector under the drivers side dash. I tried to do an ASCII drawing of the diagram the 2 X's are the pins that you need to connect. After connecting these pins you need to turn the ignition to the on position without the engine running and watch the Check engine light and see how it flashes. Long Flashes are 10's places and short flashes are 1's places. I.E. 4 long flashes and 2 short flashes = the code 42. It will flash all engine codes that are in memory and then it will repeat them. Check them for accuracy and then come back on here and IM me on h-t or reply to this thread and I will look up the codes for you.

"disconnect the battery and replug it later.
the more you let it bother you, the more it will"
is like putting a patch over bullet wound> "I'll just let this one go by, it's only my car."

its not a band aid. a band aid would be a piece of electric tape over the check engine light, or pulling the bulb for the check engine light.
resetting the ecu is a good idea, and thats what id try first, if there is a problem the light will come back on.

could be a random misfire code that the accords throw randomly to **** people off. Clear the ECU and see if it comes on again, if so, check the code and be all like, "wassup bitch, i have dis light on mai dash and it be on and ****, what da **** do i do wit dis **** playa?"

I may have found the problem, I asked my wife when the last time she filled up was and she told me friday, I asked if she consciously closed the gas cap to at least 3 clicks, she told me she thought it was 1 click and she did that. So I tightened the cap and pulled the negative off the battery and reconnected it. The light is off now, but I told her to be easy on the car and watch for the light, if it comes back on we'll know it wasn't the gas cap and I'll pull a code, if I can get the right pin locations.

now, resetting it after you check it is a standard procedure. but if you just reset it and never check it, if it comes back on, you have no idea if you have thrown the same code again or if it's new one.
Well, I'm still in the dark. My wife just e-mailed and said the light came on again, she said it was at the same time as last time, just after she got over 70mph. I wanna check the code, but have no clue as to how because of how my car is different, look at this picture:
That is how you are suppose to jumper the thing to get the code HOWEVER, I do not have pins in the plug at 8 and 13. There are only 6 pins in the plug and they are located at 4, 5, 7, 9, 14, and 16. Can anyone help?

when you changed the oil, your probably dripped some oil on the oxygen sensor... this happened to me before. Try to wipe down the oxygen sensor wire and the oxygen sensor and hopefully that should solve your problem
yes there is, Cooling System Malfunction
