Which, IMO is the best system. The student gets familiar with the track, without the liability of the instructor damaging the students car.

Don't be telling Warren you watch his videos a dozen times a day...he'll get all swell headed.
Is there such a word as "swelleder"?

Is there any reason an instructor would have a prob with a newbie specifically asking the instructor to drive the first 2-3 laps?

When I went to summit point I was driving from the very start but I think the first session would have gone a lot more smoothly had I asked my instructor to show me around first. One of those deals where I didn't quite "get" a couple sections until the instructor took the wheel and forced me to do it right , after that it was simple...I can only imagine how much of a help it would have been to see the track done correctly before I ever drove it.

too bad I won't be at VIR

NASA hopes that since you will have a classroom session before you go out, you will have some idea of where the track goes. You CAn ask your instructor to drive your car, but my personal (Not NASA) wish is that I drive my car. The only other people who drive my car are Tony and Alicia. (kids - pobably even more dumb).

If you do have a problem with a turn, talk it over with your instructor, bring it back to the classroom and talk about it.

I had my instructor drive my car for a lap at my first time at Summit Point, but that was a special situation anyway (there was trouble finding instructors, so I missed the 'warm up' laps of my first session). It was helpful in that situation, but otherwise I preferred driving my own car at all times and just getting a slow lap to get acquainted with the track.

If I recall, NASA does the first few (instead of just one) laps of the day under Full-Course-Yellow, which should allow the instructor and student to become acquainted with each other, the car, and the track.
