i heard a report on the news a couple month ago about changing oil, getting to the point....it is recommended by most places that you get your oil changed every 3000 miles.....but in reality its needed after 7000 if i remember correctly.....i forgot...darn....but it also what is done to your car and how you drive it....
i get my oil changed at a honda shop.. they put stickers as reminders of when i'm supposed to get my oil changed (has date and mileage).. well i was wondering if i should get my oil changed even though i haven't reached the mileage written on it, but the date written has passed..

i regularly drive my car from VA to NC which is at least a 2hr drive so i burn off all the combustion byproducts that are left in the oil, i did my HW i know when to change the oil. and synthetics to last longer than fossil oils.

I get my oil changed every 3k miles or every 3 months, whichever comes first. I drive about 10k to 12k every year. So the time and mileage come at about the same time for me, but not always.
IMO, you should get it changed even though you haven't reached the mileage yet.
the reason i believe is because if you have the same oil in there for too long it will start to settle too much, coagulate (sp). if you hit the sticker date... change it. my dad has to change the oil in his vette every few months cause he never drives the thing. also especially if you dont drive it that much get the oil flushed every 15,000 miles. that should be done anyways. good for the engine. gives it a fresh start.
that should be enough babble from me.

Check your owner's manual - It will give you recommended oil change intervals based on your driving style. I would not blink about running the full 7.5K miles between changes if the majority of your driving is "normal". Dealers are in business to make money, so they tell you that you need your oil changed every 3K miles. The truth is this was the recommended interval about 40 years ago when oils were not processed nearly as heavily as they are today. This isn't just my opinion, it's also Hondas.

i remember when i switched to mobil 1, i started burning oil a lot faster. my friend burnned out his engine because of it. it seems that what was happening was that if your car already has 40k + mi on it and youve been using petro based oil that when u switch to mobile 1 ur engine runs through it like water, burn up in ur pcb valves (is that the right abreviation?) ne ways, the valves in ur exhaust, so the oil got burned up and shot out my tail-pipe. don't get me wrong though, i ran a lot smoother on mobile 1, but once i flushed it out and switched back, i dont burn oil as badly.
whoa whoa whoa, your making the bold statement that mobile 1 (one of the best engine oils you can buy) burned out your friends engine in the same post that you stated that your car has a "PCB" valve, which the oil "burns up in"? what exactly is a PCB valve? is it anything like a posative crankcase ventilation valve, if so it has nothing to do with oil burning up. also what valves are in your exhaust that have to do with burning oil? there are valves in your CYLINDER HEAD, most of the time if your burining oil its blowby from bad rings because ho synthetics higher flash point
I don't know how they are now, but Mobil 1 was known to have had some formulation issue over the past 2-3 years - much excessive consumption and a decrease in economy and performance. I don't know if they have admitted to this, but I've heard a lot of anecdotal evidence of this.

forget about how many miles you should go before changing the oil, just change it every 3 months regardless of how many miles you have driven unless you did you cross country journey. Oil breaks down even if its just sitting in your engine without any driving.
