I need some help. I just got an 83 accord LX from my grandmother. The thing only has about 84K mi on it and runs fine except for one problem....when the engine gets warm and is parked for about an hour and I go back and start the car up then engine will rev up, drop to about 250 rpm and then die. I have tried keeping my foot on the gas and keeping the revs at about 2k for a min or two but it still dies on me. The only way to cure the problem is to keep the revs at 2K while in neutral and then slam it into gear (I know its horrible on the tranny and I wince everytime) once the car drives for a couple min its fine and idles normally.

Heres what I have done so far to try and correct the problem:
Change spark plugs (which were black and had fouling on them)
Change oil, oil filter, and air filter
replace spark plug wires
and going to replace the fuel filter tommorow.

The car does run better but I still have problems.
Any advice?

 

I don't know if too many people here know about 2nd gen Accords.
