Those of you who have DYI Black housing headlights -- question...
I have recently aquired EG OEM headlights, and did black housing on on them. I am in love with them on the looks and such, but unfortunately, the silicon I purchased isn't sealing the headlights from condensation completely..
For those of you who have done black housing on your oem lights, what silicon did you purchase to completely seal off the headlights again? And have you placed them in the oven again to completely seal it off?
What I did is placed them in the oven to open them up, and painted them as normal. Then put the silicon and allowed them to dry at room temperature.
Any advise and helpful information would be much appreciated.
For those of you who wish to do black housing headlights in your car, I will definitely post pictures.

I just bought some clear liquid nails silicone from Wal-Mart when I gig my Ek. I just removed as much of the old sealer before putting them back together. Then I sealed them up really good and went back over missing parts after a few hours.
damn, that's what i need to do. I competely took off all of the old silicon on the glass part of the headlight, but the housing and such.
thanks for the input man.

just put them back in the oven for 5 minutes, the sylicone(SP?) will soften and flow into the cracks better... for future reference you dont even need to buy new sylicone, if you just heat up the two peices when they are apart, then pu tthem back togeter, clip them in place, and then put them back in the oven they will seal fine with the original glue.

Here are some pics when I did mine:

done.
I have one of the light taped up before painting, but for some reason it won't up load.
I heat'd mine back up and used the grey sealant to seal it back up, then when around with silicone.
I used 200 Degrees for intervals of 5-6min until the glass housing would loosen up with a very small flat head.

dude, how hard is it to add a little more silicon? 5 minutes could save you having to take your headlights apart again to clean the water out.
when i painted my lights, i put everything back together and popped it in the oven @ 215 for 10-15 minutes, until the glue was nice and sticky. i took them out, and pushed everything together until it was like new. then i took some silicon i bought at home depot (it wasn't expensive, i used water faucet silicon) and rubbed it in the cracks nice and good. there is no way water can get in there now. the lights survived the worst SoCal rainstorm in as long as i can remember, no leaking. good luck i want to see the finished product

I just put mine back in the oven again w/ the original glue. no extra sealent here and not a hint of fogging up even after some really hard rain storms.

Just a ? about clearing the EK headlights? Do you guys not have any problems about not having reflectors in the headlights? I know you're supossed to have them and the cops around here are really tough on all the modified cars....can somebody tell me what the deal is??
