Any word on Shenandoah Circuit?
Several organizations have dates on it. ECHC and American Iron have race dates on the schedule.
Then again, NASA had Rousch Creek on it's schedule in 2001....

So, in my boredom, I was trying to figure out how big the circuit is. The scale on the drawing is 1"=200', but since it has been reduced, I can't use that. I vamped up the earlier drawing with some snazzy graphics:
A few things:
1. There was a grid laid out on the map that I highlighted in red. I'm assuming this is lattitude and longitude. Anyonw know how to convert minutes and seconds into feet? I'm not even sure what the interval of the grid is, though.
2. There are markings around the track that measure off distance of some sort. They don't include the section of track not highlighted in yellow, and at they start at 00+00 and end at 88+70, as shown in the enlargement. Anyone know what unit of distance this is measuring? It wasn't obvious to me.
3. Is that a standard 300ft dia skidpad? And if so, what is being measured, the centerline, the outside edge, or the inside edge?
4. Maybe someone knows the answer already... How long is the track?

There are many turns but also many configurations (incl. karting). For school use, the layout is approx. 2.2mi as stated earlier. At least initially, race configuration will be 1.9mi max as spelled out by the consessions BSR made to the locals in order to get the final permits signed off on.
The hope is that if all goes well for the first year or two that the above restriction will be lifted.
Just don't ask me what the race configuration will be. No clue.
As an aside, it's BSR's hope to run FATT on Summit Point and Seat Time on Shenandoah simultaneously as things get up to speed.

It sounds like it is more of an instructional track than anything. If it's that tight, it won't make for good wheel-to-wheel racing. I don't see a whole lot of opportunity for passing.

EDIT: that can't be right, can it?

That sounds right to me. - for Floyd's yellow highlighted configuration. The remaining loop adds close to 4000ft for a total of somewhere under 2.3mi.
Thought I would bring this one back up to the top since the original opening date is coming up.
It looks like on Summit Point's schedule page

all Shenandoah events before mid-september have been cancelled. So it looks like Mid-september at the earliest
Personally, Im not holding my breath that it will open this season.

Interesting, looks like the September NASA date is officially off the calendar. I hope the Nov 1-2 event on main circuit does go the way of the Oct 4-5 event.
On the 06/21-22 weekend it looked like they had some grading and drainage work done, but pavement appeared quite a while off. Guess it depends on how diligent they are, and how much the rain holds off.

Looks like they have some 'hard' work to do. Some of the track center-line had been staked... but not enough to make out the track.

Comparing last weekend to the NASA weekend, I didn't see any progress whatsoever. Sure it's only a week, but it didn't seem like any of their machines had moved one bit... *shrug*

This would coincide with the rumor that I heard about their building permit running out at the end of July. with apparently firm resolution from the community that it would not be renewed.
yay more rumors!

Maybe we should all buy property in Summit Point, take over the town council, and assess a $500.00 race track development tax against all the old junkers up on blocks in the front yard. We could probably finish the new track and have enough left over to build new bathrooms.

don't know nuthin' about dem rumors, but I was just calling to try and sign up for the 8/15 FATT, and they (BSR) said that the current hopeful completion date is mid september. We'll just have to wait an' see.
the numbers you are looking at Floyd are the length markers for the centerline of the track
0+00 to 1+00 is 100 feet usually
so it would indicate that the track is 8870 ft like said before
if you want to scale it blow it up until the scale matches the 100 feet indicators
