Default exhaust flow question

Im working on making my own stainless steel exhaust, im thinking about having a setup kinda like the nascar autos. except coming out both sides (still going for low profile so it'd be tucked away). Most headers i see have cyls 1 & 4 connected and 2 & 3 connected. If i had 1 & 2 connected going off to the side closest to the them (timing belt side?) and then did the same with 3 & 4 would there be an adverse affect to this? Im not going to do this for another 2-3 weeks so im just getting ideas and opinions

1&4 and 2&3 are paired up becaue of the firing order. I think the exhaust pulse leaves low pressure behind it which allows the following pulse to move quicker. Pairing 1&2 and 3&4 would ruin that effect and cause you to lose power.
