Racing is the process of turning money into noise.

Racing costs today exactly the same as it did twenty years ago.. it takes every penny you have.

There are some old classics "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?" and "Slow down to go fast" and of course "The older I get, the faster I was" (doesn't apply to me of course ).

 

Sam Posey, on air during live network coverage of the 1983(?) Indy 500, when Pat Bedard crashed: "Phuuuck..."

Gianpiero Moretti, having just won the Daytona 24 hours, when asked how his final stint in the car was (with huge grin on his face): "I have to chit in my suit, but is OK!"

Go fast formula:
more power!! less weight, bigger, stickier tires, any remaining weight low and in the middle.
All the "engineering stuff" is basically figuring out how to achieve the above.

A couple autocross related ones that I got from the net...

There are fast parts and there are slow parts. Learn the difference.

As soon as you pass the start line, you are only losing time. Minimize how much time you lose.
It's not just going faster, it's spending less time on the course.

Chris Capitto(excuse me for the sp) over the radio @ 12 hours at the Point 2000 I think he was driving a Miata. Tried to follow one of my co-drivers into the breaking zone we had a MBZ 16valve w/ HUGE brakes. He ended up on the beach if you know what I mean.
