anyone painted their rims to black without that glossy look, please help
I would try to be as specific as possible. Just bought a set of kosei k1
for the car, don't like the color at all, would like to paint it to black,
but most of the black I found is glossy, that shinny look. I like the color
similar to the spoon rims without that reflection, shinny, glossy look.
I have seen people did it and would like to learn how to achive it.
I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks

Or just try using a flat black. I believe VHT makes a good flat black.
I have used DupliColor's and Krylon's flat blacks too.

paint!? it's going to start chipping off for sure...get them powder coated, will last much longer. And there two other blacks called semi-gloss or semi-flat black, or satin-black....

depengine on the forging or building process of the rim you plan on getting powdercoating note that the wheels were built by heating them up and cooling to a cetain tempature so when you get them powdercoated there is a possibility that you will weaken the structure of the rims while powdercoating them since the color has to be heated in the pores of the wheels surface.
I sandded mine rough as hell, used rustoleom metal primer and painted it with rustoleuom flat black, then used rustoleum flat black protective enamel. They look just like the spoon sw's. BTW, they are 95 GSR rims. Powdercoating in VA is hella expensive, this place quoted me 80 bucks per wheel.

You have to heat the rims up to 400 degrees when powder coating, which is no where near the forging temperature. Note also colored rims you purchase are powder coated from the factory, after forging. If your rims are already coated they are usually chemicaly stripped before recoating. I got a price of $15 for stripping, and $40-45 for powder coating each rim. In a semi-flat black color.
Damn powdercoating where some of you guys are is cheep...it's like 80-90 per rim here.... I am paint my car at the EOM and the body shop quoted me $60 per rim to re-drill my center cap holes AND paint them with automotive paint any color...... waddaya think of using automotive paint (w/ clearcoat) ? Would it chip as quickly as sprays ?
(damn...I hate going off topic !)
