Default When does butterfly valve open?

Do you guys know at what rpm does the flap open on the stock intake pipe (not intake manifold)??? I'm thinking of putting my stock intake tube w/o resonator back on.

The butterfly for the intake pipe is on the actual resonator so if you decide to put the stock back on with out the resonator then you don't need to know when it opens. I'd say it sat 4900 rpm since that's when the intake manifold butterflies open.

i just mounted myn to where the resonator used to mount. And when i took off the resonator i decided to see when it opens, it opens when you turn the car on and closes when its off.

the butterfly valve opens when VTEC engages, as does the 2nd manifold runner.

I did an entire thread on this

H23: 4800rpms

H22A1: 4600rpms
H22A1 VTEC: 4900rpms

Directly from the helms.

H22A4: 4900
H22A4 VTEC: didn't see but by all accounts it's 5200....

True concerning the H22A4 engine. Little unsure about the VTEC engagement. Before I got my VAFC the VTEC engaged at 5600 on the tach, but now that i know the tach is off by 200-400 rpm it could be that the stock VTEC is 5200. interesting.

This is the short piece I wrote about butterflies and VTEC in PreludeOnline's brand New Naturally Aspirated Specialty Forum, tons of great info in there...

====

Ok out of being sick of people quoting the wrong information about when the Secondary Intake runners open on both the H22 and H23 engines, as well as when VTEC engages, I make this post.

From my trusty helms here is the facts on the H23

H23A1 IAB Valve OFF: 4,800 RPM

Yes that's right boys, your H23 secondaries do not open at 4k for the torque monster etc etc....

For the H22A1:

H22A1 IAB Valve OFF: 4,600 RPM
H22A1 VTEC Engagement: 4,900 RPM

That's right, not 5k, not 5200, not 5500. Someone can post the H22A4 figures that would be great.

NOW, let's see the 4,600rpm secondaries in action! Here is a video of my "stock" lude on the dyno. Listen closely and you can hear the secondaries open up just before VTEC. It's actually pretty cool, because it sounds like VTEC has engaged, then about 2 seconds later you hear it REALLY engage. It's pretty cool, and I think helps describe the difference.

Enjoy!

The secondary intake manifold opens before VTEC at 4600rpm but I'm asking about the dual stage intake runners. Do they open at the same time as the intake manifold?

I'll find out when in spring if anybody doesn't know.

He was more than clear that he was not talking about the intake manifold secondary butterflies.

The ICSOL Intake Contol Solenoid opens at 3000 rpm.

i was going to say they are not talking about the intake manifold, and even says that. They are refering to the valve in the intake box down in the fender
