I just bought a new ATS 4.928 final drive from someone. Can anyone with firsthand experience tell me the # of teeth on the main shaft and counter/ring gear?-just to make sure that I got a genuine ATS unit that is a TRUE 4.928 final.
Also, for those of you running the ATS 4.928 final drive in a US type R or CTR tranny, how do you like it compared to the stock 4.40???

Not much help....but I am seriously thinking about putting one of those in my LS tranny, would even settle for the JDM 4.78 or whatever.

try asking this in the ITR forum. there are more ITR owners running the ATS then GSR owners.

 

i run it iin my jdm gsr tranny. compared to the stock 4.400 it day and night difference. the car feels alot faster and gets to redline twice as fast than before!! youll love it man

 

Just divide the number on teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the mainshaft

 

But then again, aren't they running the 4.785 ATS? This 4.928 one is news to me. Unless I'm missing something.

 

ATS makes the 4.929 final drive kit.

The 4.785 final drive is from the 98spec JDM ITR transmission.

 

I'm curious - with a 4.929 FD, what is your RPM in 5th gear when you're cruisin' along at 75 MPH? Wouldn't it be insanely high?

In other words, with this FD, you'll be in VTEC all the time during highway driving? I'm not sure that's the smartest thing. Well, if its only a track car, I guess its a great mod.

 

Exactly, from what I hear it's not at all freeway friendly.

 

On a GS-R, 80mph would be about 4500 rpm, and redline in 5th gear is around 150. For a LS, 80mph is about 4000 rpm and the rev-limiter in 5th is 143.

the couter shaft has 14 teeths .. the ring has 69 teeths .. just divide the two and u will get 4.928

 

With a GSR, you'll have 4500 RPM @ 81 MPH in 5th gear. Damn - I usually drive around 80 MPH on the highway too. Its even worse for Type R owners - 4500 RPM @ 75 MPH!!!

I have one in a gsr tranny with a jdm itr first gear. It's not that bad on the highway I'm NOT in vtec when cruising or even doing 80. You will love the acceleration though
