d15 vs. D16 ?!
I have a 91 dx hb auto. I still have the d15 in, was going to do a whole 91 Si swap, motor, suspension, everything. i also got to make standard.
ne way, Now i don't know if i want to do that. I kinda want to try and keep the d15 and be original, do MPFI swap, d16y8 manifold, then turbo the whole thing. The money i would save from not swapping everything, i was thinking of upgrading the motor internals, turbo, etc. Has anyone ever done this, would like some help, need to be original and want to do something new for myself all the way down here in HAWAII. Think of your help as your contribution to a project in the works.
Any help given is much appreciated.
Peace.

Well if you are going to do anything, at least convert it to manual, and do the MPFI conversion with the Y8 manifold. Then from there at least you will have some sort of platform to build upon. Are you doing all the work, or are you taking it to a shop? If you are taking it to a shop, and you do decide on boosting, then perhaps you could have them upgrade your internals at the same time (provided your budget allows). Whatever you do end-up deciding on, make sure you take the time to research and plan your project. Don't skimp on quality, but yet don't waste your money on the unnecessary.
if your D15's still in good shape, I say stick with it. the reason I'm putting an A6 in my car is because the old B1 has over 210,000 mi on it and it's blowing oil everywhere. and I got a good deal on the A6. The hp differance between the d15 and d16 is marginal at best. In fact, a lot of d-series racers are using D15's because they have a better r/s ratio. I would also recomend the manual swap as stated above.

d16a will put out a bit more power than a d15b with same mods since its bigger..also a d16a will idle better and benifit more froma big cam than 1.5...smaller engine cant handle bigger cams..I learned this from a kid who put a decent sized cam meant for a 350 in a 283..the lil 283 wouldnt even idle right...d16a has stronger bottom end from what ive heard...just my 2 cents
