Default Radio installation in 2003 Civic

Anyone know of any online documentation on installing a new head unit and speakers in a 2003 Civic? This is my first install, and I want to know whether it's worth the attempt or if I'd be in over my head.

Should be a piece of cake as long as you can find a mounting kit and a wiring harness adaptor. Do you have factory keyless entry?

Its not bad actually. You will need the Metra Harness 1721 for your car and I think the dash kit for your car is the 7899. If you need to know how to disassemble your car email me or PM me and I will tell you. Its not bad but if you try to do it yourself you will most likely break your dash

There's keyless but I've been told that it's not held in the radios in 2001+. Have you seen any instructions floating around?

The keyless entry will not be affected by changing the radio in your Civic. Honda put it on a different circuit

....Are there any sites like installdr out there? I'm comfortable wiring, just not sure if I'm capable of removing the dash on the car.

Also, how well/poorly should the integrated roof antenna work with a new tuner?

ok well let me tell you how to take it apart. The lower dash piece that has the lighter on it just pulls off. When you have that pulled off, stick your head underneath in there and you will see two silver 8mm bolts that you have to remove. After you take them out the whole dash pulls off. I will caution you on doing this because on the newer cars the dash fits very tight compared to some older cars. Basically just be careful when you are pulling it off not to scar your dash. After the dash has popped out, yoo will have to unplug everything that is plugged into it. Take the dash completely out of the car and place it on some type of table. You will see that the radio is held in by 4 Silver 8 MM screws two are visible and two are not. The other two are behind the AC unit which unscrews. Be sure to remove all of the ***** as well. It should be 3 or 4 screws that hold in the unit. After that unit is taken out, you will be able to see the other screws that need to be removed. After the factory radio is out then your removal of the factory radio is complete. Post back if you have any questions about the installation of your new radio.

By "the whole dash" pulls off do you mean the cluster with the radio/AC/pocket, or the WHOLE DASH? Thanks a lot for the info, its helping a lot.

The "whole dash" pulls off, not just the radio part of it.

The instructions you gave me work perfectly for the 2001/2002 version of the car...But for 2003 it seems they have integrated the whole lighter section into the center console (one continuous piece from the bottom of the lighter to almost the rear seat). Any ideas? Thanks.

hmm ok I see what you are referring to now. I have never done a 2003 but here is my guess. See if that whole console will just pop up. If it doesnt then try to remove different components on the actual console. If that fails follow the trim piece above with the lighter is and into the glove box. Look for screws that may be holding it in. Let me know what happens.

Hello Guys, I appreciate all your input. I have a 2003 civic LX and I want to check or possibly replace my fan switch on the dash. So I need to get under the dash, any simple clues? Thanks Tom.

Is it a 2 door coupe, 2 door hatch or a 4 door sedan?
