Default Check Engine Light

I have a 2001 Prelude w/ JDM Headers, AEM CAI, Apexi N1. I was just wondering while the check engine light is on, does it rob any horsepower? It's probably a dumb question, but i was just wondering!
Thanks,
~Doug

More then likely it's going to be an O2 sensor going bad, but then again a few things can cause a check engine light (misfire, low fuel pressure, running too rich, etc.). The local dealership here well check it out for like $45 so you may wanna try calling around (unless you've got a friends). Given a lot dealership won't touch a car that's modified, but a few here are starting to come around. Especially if the dealership itself sells anything aftermarket.

just pull the fuse and put it back in. if it goes off again soon like 5-10 minutes then something is wrong otherwise its nothing
I spent like 200 bucks at a dealer once because my O2 sensor mis-read and all it needed to do was to be reset.

A misfire or something critical like that will cause the CEL to blink. if the CEL stays solid, that means "there's a prob, you should get it fixed as soon as convient" type error. If it blinks, that means "you better hope you aren't too far from a fix it shop!" heh. usually if it comes on solid and comes on a few minutes after you reset the ECU it's going to be an oxygen sensor. My current CEL is the 2ndary O2 reading too high or too low. It's been that way for months

If you are close to 30k it may be your service reminder. Mine just came on recently before I had the dealership clear it.

Oh guys, sorry about that! I didnt explain to you why it was on. I gutted the cataylic converter. I was just wondering since it is on will it cause me to lose any hp? Cause i have a friend w/ a RXS-Type S and he said if his check engine light was on then it caused him to lose some hp. I am asking because we had a friendly race last Sat. night and he reset his ECU before the race. I mean he does have Hondata, so maybe that only applies to him losing hp. But i was just wondering if you guys knew if it would cause our ludes to lose any? But if you are wondering how the race went, well it was Ok. He has a RSX-S, listed above with AEM CAI, Custome Exhaust, and Hondata. He has about 20 more hp than me, but we both took off from a roll and i kinda got the jump because i have just a lil more torque than he does. Well we were cruising along and i shift into third and he is catching slowly but surely. I take it to fourth at about 120 or so and he is at my driver side door closing in and i thought we were going to let off , but i guess we were pumped and wanted more. So i shift into fifth and i have know idea how fast i was going because i had my eyes on the road. But as soon as i shift to fifth there he is, so from then he has about a tire in front oh me. So overall it was really good race. Sorry for the book

That's the same reason mine's on.. until I can get a high-flow. It's just sensing the Cat isn't working and that's making the reading too high or too low. It won't put the ECU into limp so you'll be fine

Jump the ECU with a small peace of wire. Then turn the key two clicks wait for the check engine will start to flash. Count the flashes and those are the codes you need to check to fix whats wrong. If you do not have the codes i have all of them for H22A post what codes it gives you and I tell you what parts are not working or need to be checked. If it flashes slow then really quick close flashes that means its double digits. If they are really quick flashes then a pause those are signal digit.
