If you have an "EF" then there is no real reason to convert your car to hydro, it would be easier/cheaper/just as efficient to use a cable tranny.

Like he said, if it's for an EF chassis, a cable is by far the easiest. But to answer your question, they do have different gear ratios. There are more choices, and sometimes better choices of hydros, since they're newer. Like the CTR tranny's close ratio gearing.

Also, there seams to be more aftermarket support for the hydro trannies, as in aftermarket gear sets, and final drive. And it's much easier to find part to repair/rebuild hydro trannies here in the US. Most JDM cable trannies dont have internal parts available in the US.

But, the cable tranny is much less expensive than a hydro.

I've got a cable JDM Y1 w/ factory LSD in my car and love the gearing.

for the ef, cable is the easiest and the cheapest. there is no reason at all to go hydro. even if you wanted to, it would cost way to much for no reason. I have a few clutches and flywheels im tryin to get rid of. check out the link in my signature.
