Power FC Tuners
As stated in a previous topic, I am looking for someone to tune my Power FC near West LA. I do not have the Commander Unit but I desperately need to get it tuned. I don't want to buy the Commander, try to learn it, and begin tuning my car as an experiment, I would rather find someone who already knows what they are doing. Any recommendations on shops near West LA, Thousand Oaks, or the surrounding area? Thanks
the best in the whole u.s is XS Enigneering in huntington beach, since they know they are the best and proven it their going to rape u on tunning cost!
Call them here is their website http://www.xs-engineering.com/
You can also try http://www.sp-power.com , someone from SP Engineering is also on honda-tech. He should be able to answer any questions that you might have.

Is anyone actually using the DataLogit with their Power FC? If so is it any good and easy to use?
As for paying someone to tune . . . .
For what you are going to pay someone else to tune your R cause you don't want to buy the commander you could have bought it and learned to tune yourself. Then when something in yoursetup changes you can tune it yourself and save the money. Something to be said for learning to do things yourself. You have a wealth of resources here and other places on the web.
Asahi, how much did it all cost you if u don't mind me asking? Is it easy to learn for someone who has not done any tuning before?
I presume you would need to get a wideband and hook it up to the PowerFC to tune it? I'm researching into standalones currently and in two minds as to whether I should go for the Hondata or PowerFC as I'll be boosting my 98' ITR in the next month. What do you suggest?

I would say if you live near torrance or in the NoVA area get the Hondata. I like my Power FC a lot but the Hondata has a leg up IMO.
That being said, in the area I am in I like being able to tune on the fly and not have to emulate or burn a chip each time a change is made. The Datalogit and software is around $300. It is easy to install and very easy to learn (Much easier than using the commander unit and if you don't mind having the laptop in the car for all your changes it is a better $300 spent than the $350 for the commander.
Learning to tune with any uit isjust a matter of spending time with it. What you will find is that a lot of the things you will want to know and need to learn would pertain to any unit you buy.
Good luck.

I'm in the UK and Hondata is like golddust here. I only know of 1-2 people with the equipment for the mapping and chip burning for Hondata and also they are not professional tuners, just private individuals; so its already putting me off the unit as its quite rare here. I also don't like the idea of having to burn a chip each time my setup changes. Its so much easier and more convenient to just make changes on the laptop.
So you suggest I get just the PFC and Datalogit (leaving the commander out) and I should be able to get into ALL the tuning parameters as a Power Excel shop would? Also I would need a wideband right?

I would have to disagree the commander will do just about anything you could possibly ever need for a mild to even moderate setup. I have to admit datalogging and the ease of seeing everything on one screen is much nicer though.
Commander costs $350
Datalogit costs $300-$330 with software.
Figure the datalogit does everything and more than the commander easier. Just that you can't view the sensors with a nice compact unit without the commander.
I have both. Commander is pretty useless now.

Also a dyno will be needed to fine tune.
Are you disagreeing with me or someone else? *scratches head* I agree with you, if it matters. I just often see people saying product a can't do b, c or d, yet they have no practical experience with it. *shrugs*

Alright, that FC Datalogit looks REALLY good. But I have a few questions. 1) All I would need is a laptop comp. (which I already have) and not a Commander correct? 2) Are there any places rather than their homepage where I can buy one and perhaps they can help me out when I'm using it? 3) I would use the wideband O2 sensor at the dyno and not one of my own correct? 4) How easy is it for a mental midget to use the datalogit (I am not really good with mechanical stuff)
Thanks
Edit for another question

I would almost have to suggest you sell your power FC and Give Matt at Hondata a call. It isn't hard stuff to learn but you have to want to know how and be willing to spend some time with it.
Keep us updated with the wideband stuff. The PFC is bad *** when tuned correctly. Too bad I sold mine to get FCR Carbs. I'm planning to get another one in the future.

I'm looking into the Dataloggit also, getting cams so will need it to make tuning easier I recon
BTW I have spoken the the "official" Dataloggit agent in the UK and they want 350 (566 USD) quid + shipping for one which is a rip-off, if you find someone to get it for 300 USD tell me I'll want one from their also.
