Default New exhaust decision made - pics included

After talking to both Jeff at SMSP and John from Hytech, I finally decided on my new exhaust. I got the Kakimoto R. to replace my Greddy Evo which is just too loud for me now. SMSP makes a great system, but I could not deal with welding the pieces together. Hytech was great too, but I just could not justify spending $900 ($1500 CAD) for a cat and exhaust, + paying duty, shipping and 15% taxes on top of that.

Here are the pics of the exhaust

Here is a pic of the straight through resonator

The exhaust uses two 45 degree bends instead on one 90 degree bend, just like SMSP's exhaust.

Here is the second resonator, the piece that causes all the controversy, because it is not straight through

Here is the measurement of the inside diameter

And just to make it ITR related, here is the JDM ITR cluster that I bought today

you didn't want to pony up for a smsp or hytech, but you spent money on a jdm cluster to have yellow indicators?

eww that doesn't look nice. would it not obstruct flow? check out the resonator on my tanabe.

ahh i my second choice in exhaust, the kakimoto r I was gonna pick this one up but at the time i was more interested in an N1 style canister so i picked up the Kakimoto N1. Hopefully the Kakimoto R isn't as loud as the N1

That's a louvered (Sp?) core resonator. The other type (on the Kakimoto, the straight through type) is a drilled core. Obviously better because the little flappy things (heh) on the louvered core interfere with flow.

Ugh.

I wonder if the resonator on my G-Medallion looks like that. I don't remember. It's been quite a while since I put that thing on.

that exhaust looks pretty clean, looks like a decent design, and yea.. like u said.. i'm not too sure about that second resonator and how restrictive it may be... but show us some pics of it on ur car and let us kno how it sounds in comparison to ur stock and evo.

I got a hook up on the price of the cluster, so I picked it up.

The exhaust was obtained through a friend who got it from http://www.boomplustoys.net/ in Vancouver. I cannot post the price (against the rules), so go check the site out

After talking to...Jeff at SMSP....

Who the freak's Jeff?

LOL...
Jeff is the exhaust-elf who comes in at night and does all the welding while Dave is asleep. I think he'll be much happier now that someone has finally given him recognition, and Dave can no longer keep him a secret.

Seriously though, since the exhaust needs to be modified anyway in order to make it fit USDM/CDM cars (I'm assuming that this is still the case), I would look into having that resonator modified/replaced at the same time. Just a suggestion.

In the picture of the Tanabe, shouldn't the flow be out of the picture, towards the camera? It wouldn't be too bad then...
