why would you have to remove the nut? why couldnt you just turn the shock around and bolt it the other way?

ive got a maverick swaybar (i cant confirm who made it) and to make it work without binding, i need to use the bracket ST gives for 88 suspension arms that my friend had extra.

I think you may be able too but with the added length the nut gives I'm not sure if the bolt ST sends you will be long enough.

there are two cut-outs or dimples on the front side of the spring cup on the rear shocks;
these should be oriented forward; they seem to be there to prevent interference with the
lower arm. This is why ST tells you to cut off the welded-on nut, so that the shock can go
in the "correct" direction. Kudos to you guys who tried to install it backwards and found that
it works; I never even thought of that when I did mine......

the issue was that the shock bolt wouldnt be long enough to go through the shock AND the bracket for the endlink. but it turns out that it was. so now the bolt points to the rear of the car and the bracket for the endlink goes infront of the shock.
