Hey guys, I got a quick question.

At around 20 mph in 1st gear (and the same RPM in any other gear, I dont have a tach) I get a raspy grinding/scraping noise, it seems like its coming from teh engine compartment. I only hear it with the windows up, and when I listen close. Also the engine itself gives off a rapsy hum I guess... hard to explain.. any ideas? Let me know.

Its a '98 Civic DX HB... Ill try and get more specific with the details when I get off work to check it out.

check your exhaust manifold. Sounds like an exhaust leak/crack.

 

I had exactly the same problem mate! Turns out that it was just a crack in the heat shield! Easily fixable!

 

Maybe a loose heat shield.
Maybe a broken/ loose filter inside of the exhaust (this happened to me before).
Case bearing in tranny?
Valves?
