Default 1st gen crx info

hi, new to the crx forum, usually post in the eg forum. a couple months ago, i picked up a crx from my friend for 120 bucks. it runs pretty good, just that it smokes, i think it's burning oil and water(white smoke, kinda blue sometimes) but after warming it up, the smoke stops. well here are my questions. its an 85' and its carbureted.

1. how do i tell which model crx i have, hf, dx, not si, cuz carbed. it says 12 valve honda on the valve cover.

2. the alternator light stays on, but when i jumped it, the voltage at the battery while the alternator is charging is about 14 .5 volts, is this about right? or is this low? some reason the alternator light stays on.

3. when i turn on my lights, gauge cluster does not light up, it's not the bulbs, i pulled the cluster out and checked. and i probed it and shows that theres voltage on the plastic circuit board on the back? reads 12 volts? any of you guys have this problem?

4. also, i have heard that i can swap in a d16a1, from an integra, 1st gen. is this possible, and can i use the tranny i have in the crx? or do i have to use the integra tranny? as for converting from carbureted to fuel injected, does anybody know exactly what parts i need? so i can look for it. and has anybody done this kind of swap before(carbed to fuel injected d16)?

i know this is alot of questions. btw, i already searched for some info, didn't find what i was looking for. well, thanks in advance for your help.

Vented front discs=DX

2. the alternator light stays on, but when i jumped it, the voltage at the battery while the alternator is charging is about 14 .5 volts, is this about right? or is this low? some reason the alternator light stays on.
that is alright, does it stay there when reving? does it jump around? might want to have it tested.

3. when i turn on my lights, gauge cluster does not light up, it's not the bulbs, i pulled the cluster out and checked. and i probed it and shows that theres voltage on the plastic circuit board on the back? reads 12 volts? any of you guys have this problem?
Does it read 12V at the sockets for the lights?

4. also, i have heard that i can swap in a d16a1, from an integra, 1st gen. is this possible, and can i use the tranny i have in the crx? or do i have to use the integra tranny? as for converting from carbureted to fuel injected, does anybody know exactly what parts i need? so i can look for it. and has anybody done this kind of swap before(carbed to fuel injected d16)?
teg trans, lots of parts, named "longest swap ever", I have all the parts you need (I have an 85 Si parts car and even have the wiring harness stripped). I think it is:

fuel pump, lines, intake manifold, ECU, wiring harness, and i think a (head if staying SOHC) and exhaust manifold would make things easier because of the CVCC system. You may want to carb the A1, that usually works well. Dual side draft Mikunis can be found on old preludes and a cutsom manifold would allow you to use those. There has been some discussion of using the A1 head on the 12V block, yeilding very low compression, but I don't know for sure if it works or not.

supposely the Si's are Fuel injected and the DX are carburated

i would go ahead and change the alt and be sure about it being good
some alternators charge but voltage reg its bad... change it and see if it still there.. then u know its the car and not the alt.. we go from there

maybe all bulbs are blown?

and for more info go ahead and email rnspeed@hotmail.com... hes actually swaping a B16A into the 1G CRX.. and he has both a DX and a Si and he can tell u all info u might wanna know if he knows.... tell him Chaco send u....hes diggin more info on them that i have so far..

thanks for the replys. the alt. light stays when i rev too, i have to pull the alternator and test it sometime, but thats the least of my concerns, the light stays on but the car runs and battery charges just fine(reads 14.5 v). thanks for the info on the swap, it looks like its gonna take alot of work and time, either way i need to do something, the car smokes and won't pass deq. due to the difficulty of the swap, i think i'll stick with the d15 for now, and rebuild it. as for the gauge cluster lights, all the bulbs are good, i changed all of them but still no light, i tested it with a multimeter and it is recieving 12 volts. i dunno whats going on. i think i have a dx, i have the digital clock and the pass. side mirror. so is anybody getting any good power out of the d15? do the carbs yield a noticeable gain? also, when i rebuild it, are there any higher compression factory pistons and rods that will fit directly in there? mainly this car will be used as a daily driver along with autocross.

haha, i feel ya. at least yours is fuel injected though. carbureters own me i have been researching it lately, and it seems that there is quite a bit you can do to the engine, even though its carbed, and they can become monsters. don't give up hope.
