1986 CRX and H22?
I have a friend who is trying to fit a h22 motor into his 1986 CRX Si. Is that possible? If anybody has any information, please le me know.

I have a B20 in my 87 Si Civic, and it is a REALLY REALLY tight fit, and the H22 is a lot bigger. Plus I dont know of any companies that make mounts for the H/F series enginies into a 1st gen CRX. Lots of custom work is going to have to go into that.
Its been done in a 85 HF.... looks like you might have to use the 92+ rad to make it fit... or at least move the rad around...
Your friend better either know a good welder or someone with a machine shop or have at least good welding skills.
Oh yeah... as for wiring... you better rewire for Electronic distrib http://tjshondas.20m.com/d16a1swap1.html then call place racing and tell them what you have planned... them and hasport can probably help you after you rewire(or buy a premade harness from HAS for b16)
*crap, I cant even come CLOSE to finding the URL for it... the page was super simple and there was a h22 sol on it too

Here's the link to the H22A powered 85 CRX. only thing is that you have to be a image station member to view the pics

Go take a peek at a 1st gen CRX with a B16 in it, and you will definately reconsider. With a B16A, the intake manifold is about 1/2" from the firewall, and you have no room for a 4-1 header because the engine is so close to the radiator. I wouldn't even try it.

It'd be a cool swap if you have the tools and means to do all the fabrication yourself. If you have to pay someone else to do it then i dont think its worth it. You can get a mount kit for a B series and the swap is fairly simple. A B series swap in an '84-87 Civic is more than enough power. I know from experience. I think an H series would be overkill, especially if its a daily driver.

couldnt you just torch off the radiator support from side to side install the motor and then reweld the whole support back on. that might give you alittle more working room.
it could work but u got to use a lot of custom stuff and u will have to cut some of the body there was a 96 civic around my area that had a h22 in i but it took a lot of work good luck
My friend the name says it all. Yeah ur gonna have to do alot of things custom. HASport has some mount kits out but i don't think they line up the motor the way it should. If you have some questions or need something made I'm the man u wanna talk to. Everything has been made no kits or anything. Just had axles made for it that's all. Been done with swap for 2 whole weeks.
