Default Automatic: should I bother?

I'm running my options to begin modifying my 97 EX. It is an auto, but for $2500, I couldn't pass. When I went to the shop which put the Turbo on my Integra, they said not to even bother tuning the car unless I did a auto to manual swap. This hurt. I trust these guys, but I'm lookin for second opinions. And thirds, etc... I was thinking my 3 options are keep the f22b and do the manual swap (The f22b has quite a few miles on it, but runs pretty well), do a complete h22a w/ manual swap (when you do this, are the master and slave cylinders there, and will I have to fab any lines?), or stick with the auto, which has already been rebuilt once, and slap a turbo on there. or maybe a h22 auto swap?? sorry for the amount of questions in the question... I'm really at a loss.

if money isnt a big issue here, i'd say do an h22a swap along with the at to mt swap at the same time. easier for the shop or yourself to do it since the engine and tranny will be out anyways.

i'm in a similar situation, however, money is an issue. so for now, i'm content with my rebuilt at

really up to you and how far you want to take your car?

i am building the auto. for my personal goals

i have talked with level ten
i have seen proof from them alone that they items are good work and will IMPROVE your car. Ppl say yeah but its xx amount of money. if you look at what they ask for a FULLY BUILT tranny, compare it to a manual conversion, plus parts as in flywheel, clutch, the tranny, linkage, parts, and other items you would need to build the five speed at the same level. you might find that your running into close of the same amount

ive setup phase one of my tranny goal
458 or so. i will send off h22 torque convertor. they will rebuilt it to increase durablity and performance. ppl say that you lose bout 20% of power with auto's. the guys have showed me and took tons of time to prove over and over again, that just with the upgrade TC you will lose the hesitate lazzy starts, lower ET times and 1/4 miles .5-1 second.. not mentioning increase its durablity and longivity *spell?*

my phase two would be to send in my jdm h22 auto for a full rebuild of it:
they can even get it to where you can shift and hold rpms like the stick

all i am saying is that it can be done
and if anyone can outprove that a well build auto will be beat by a stick, please do so.. all "big" drag cars are all auto's

not to mention you miss shift, ping, or anything like that related to stick.. boom your on your way to another rebuild

if i was you id swap in a H22A, use the F22 tranny (built by L10 or Protech), and turbo it. obviously your going to be spending some good money either way, so why not just do it all. a performance a/t will outperform a performance m/t anyday, simply because humans can make mistakes.

I would suggest checking out preludeonline.com and read some of the bad SS lude stories about L10. Some of them are now just doing 5sp swaps.

yea, I've heard some bad things about L10. I'm still running the stock accord auto tranny with the h22a. the tranny has 107,000 miles on it and its starting to act up. planning on the at to mt swap soon. a rebuilt at tranny would probably do fine but its not working out with the kinda driveing i do (road cource). with i/h/e plus v-afc I'm running a 10.34 in the 1/8 mile (no idea about 1/4 because the closest on is about 4 hrs away). the tranny is the reason I can't do any better, though it would be ideal with FI.

true the jdm auto is leaps and bounds better than any USDM auto tranny, but all the junk that broke in the SS trannies is replaced or should have been replaced in a L10 buildup. So any failures should be L10s fault, not do to the honda tranny being crap.
