Rewiring the fans for switch?
Just curious if anyone has done this and if so how they wired it... what relays they used and all that.
I would like to keep the factory controls intack but also add a switch for the posssibilty of overriding the factory controls.
Let me know or point me in the right direction... I did a search.

i would say just get a good switch (Radio Shack part # 275-712, illuminated-30A spst) and a good relay (Radio Shack part # 275-226,30A-bosch type or any high current bosch type). then just wire it all up.
will I faulck it up if I added a switch to it and did leave it also controled via the ecm and thermoswitch>?
additional circulation of the air in the engine bay... just to be able to use it more when needed or I want to let it sit after running with fan on.

on the "will it hurt anything part", it probably could. i would make a seperate circuit for it and throw a diode (Radio Shack part # 276-1103) on the lead going to the ecm/thermoswitch (same wire?) to keep the voltage/current from backing up.

yes, most 5th gen fans do continue to run after the car is cut off
I generally think the stock cooling system is adequate for the car, I have tracked mine in 100 degree temps, track temp was like 130 degrees, without it ever going above halfway
if the car isn't cooling itself properly then that might be a sign of a bigger problem

Most thermal switches just complete a circuit to ground to trigger the fan. All you need to do is tap into the lead going to the thermo switch and attach that to one side of a switch of your choice. The other side of your switch would be attached to ground. This way you can make the fan turn on at will, while still retaining the factory fan control. I would suggest you find a wiring diagram for your car to confirm this is correct, and to make sure you tap into the correct thermo switch.

The dioed is a very smart thing to add because as you say the voltage could back up when it should not be. It might also be smart to have the wiring diagram first.
