Default Going on a diet, weight consideration...

I was wondering if anyone out there had the opportunity to weigh stock OEM parts against their aftermarket counter parts. For example, lights, bumpers, etc... Crx's in particular. Also anyone with any tips and tricks to getting a car down to it's minimum weight please let us know.

1st I'd try a search, then go to http://www.geocities.com/ben_ogle/efdaweight.html

Minimum weight for what racing?

If you are allowed to modify the bumpers, you can easily remove around 40lbs (from a 2nd Gen Integra) - just takes a cutoff wheel and a little work on the bumper crossmembers.

If you can, gut the hood too; it's tedious and takes some patience but costs you nothing and will weigh in at next to nothing - close to the weight of an aftermarket carbon fiber hood weight if you do it right. It will be a little flimsy though ... well maybe a lot flimsy.

If you don't absolutely need it, take it out/cut it off: This means things like airconditioning, cruise control, airbags, moonroof system, etc...

Wheels and tire weights are important too...don't forget to consider that.

Basically he's talking about minimum weight possible w/ drivetrain, suspension, wheels/tires, etc. Weight will be taken down as far as possible then ballast will be added to bring it back up to spec weight.

It's for ECHC...

edit: forgot to put the series in.

he's asking because its not legal to do most methods of weight reduction in most classes.

I don't know about for the CRX, but I lost 12# out of my MR2 by systematically weighing batteries at Walmart. The $29 cheapy battery was 32# to my 44# DieHard.
