Now, what caused the differential bearing to wear out? possibly bad installation of an Axle. Or perhaps slammed suspension shoving axle into bearing. or maybee tranny out of fluid. we may never know for sure.
A proper autopsy of the tranny may reveal more.
How did I do? did I pass the test?
no the bearings were fine..
Hey Ive had two S1 tranny's do this and both of them happened on an incline such as your talking about. I think that might have something to do with it.
We had one do this too. No sign of bearing problems. My friend pulled out of a McDonalds, and just a tiny clink sound, and the car rolled to a stop. The diff had come out through same spot in the trans. We never figure out what did it.
I know that provides no insight, but at least you're not alone in not knowing.

Heres what happened.....
The middle shaft that the diff gears rotate on WERE NEVER hardened by Honda. They only started hardening the shaft in 92. Once the shaft wears out enough the gears can slid on the shaft essentially exploding the DIff.
Just ask Mista Bone about this one. He know's all about it...

Well, that's nice to know that the tranny I just got done re-building with all new syncros, seals, and bearings could still explode at any time for no aparent reason because it still has the original diff!!

Yes, Yes, Yes, I recognize that pic of a worn shaft. This happened to my B20a5 old school Prelude a couple of years ago during an autocross event. I have a pic like that one of the worn shaft on the ends.
I think its something that wears over time and finally lets go. Auto crossing my Prelude while my CRX was in the making just accelerated the weak worn shaft in my LUDE tranny.
Its wierd to see someone else post up a pic of that shaft. You are not alone, my friend.
Now Im curious to as where those pics of mine went. i think they were normal photo pics I took, not digital.

wow that sucks, but its good news for me, i need a clutch release arm, and the upper stay thing the clutch cable runs though for my s1 tranny, mine are both bent from the previous owner of my car using the wrong clutch cable and bending the **** out of them to make it work, can anyone wth a blown one help me out? im in md btw....
it may be too out of focus, but it looks just like mine. In fact, I thought my clutch arm was bent too, but in the 93 Integra Helms diagrams they draw it bent, so I figured it was ok. Maybe yours is worse than the picture appears...

Good luck on the new tranny man..
