Hi, I have a 1997 Hx and have a question. In the next few months or so my friends and I plan on swapping a B18C1 into my car. Since the HX is set up a bit different than the other Honda models I was wondering if I would have to make any changes. Also if any of you guys have done this kind of swap before and know of any troubles or have any tips let me know. Thanks.

HX I believe comes with vtec-e already so thats ok, and you'll need to run a new wire for the knock sensor. Make sure you get an OBD-2 engine also.

 

You will have to add a knock sensor, and rewire the primary O2 sensor, and add a secondary butterflies wire.

Other problem is the HX doesn't have a fuel tank pressure sensor, so with any other ECU besides the Hx ecu, you will throw a code 91 except a couple

I tried a variety of ecus.....the one that I found that didn't throw the code was a 96 GSR ecu. Using a 97 gsr ecu caused the code to show up. OBD1 ecus do not have a code 91.

So, if you can get a 96 GSR ecu to make things easiest.

A 96-98 GSR ecu will plug right in, 99-01 will not.

You can use a 94-95 gsr ecu, or a 99-01 but you will need an adaptor harness.
