I found a local CRX Si tranny for sale, which is off the car. The code on the front is L3. I have an 89 Civic DX and it is also L3. Are both the Si and DX tranny's an L3 and if so are there any way to distinguish between them other than to actually drive a car with that tranny?

 

Look around on the casting back by the axle area there should be a small stamp that has pl3000, thats the si tranny. The other one is like a pl1000- dx tranny.

These castings are located above the differential opening on passenger side.

i gave a SI tranny from 90 that says PL3/3000
and my DX one says PL3/A100

 

Just out of curiousity was that a 4 or 5 speed?

 

I have a 5 speed dx in the garage and it is pl3/A000
My si 5 speed was pl3\3000
