Default I hate these type of threads! please take the poll.

but i need everyones help. just tell me whether or not you think a Naturally Aspirated B16A is capable of creating 240 TO THE WHEELS WITHOUT ANY MACHINE WORK TO THE BOTTOM END. that means, no stroking, no boring, no balancing or blueprinting, none of it.
so it would consist of just drop in parts. ie. rods pistons, and enough headwork for it to still be daily drivable(he's planning to use skunk2 stage 1's). it has to be DAILY DRIVABLE. I am 100% sure it can't be done, but i have money riding on this and i have a very stubborn bunch of people that dont agree with me.

if you have done it or seen it done please provide proof. thanx for your help.

if you are talking na then imho opinion no matter how much $ you have it is not possible. its hard enough to get a b18c5 up to 240whp and the head is already lightly ported/polished and it has the extra displacement. i say theres no way on a b16 without some kind of forced induction or sleeving/honing.

you are 100% correct. thanks. my friend mike has done over 10K in mods to his b18c5 then he had it tuned professionally with a hondata stage 4 and it put down around 220. his b18c5 is almost maxed out. it isnt gonna happen with a b16.

no way in hell,a freind with a fully built n/a gsr is around 200 hp to the wheels, and thats a 1.8,no 1.6 will do it.just make sure your both talking about power to the wheels and not the crank.

NO WAY IN HELL A B16a can hit 240 WHP without bottomend work!!!! anyone who tells you that is full of CRAP....

160 stock......140 to the wheels.....you can NO ADD 100 HP to the wheels by just head work or NAWZZZZZ but you said NA so that rules out nawz and boost.....

NOT POSSIBLE!!

one mag out there is making the all powerful na b16 motor and their top goal is 200, and thats TOP goal, and i believe that they will use every trick in the book to get there. its just impossiable, no amount of headwork could do it, unless you did something with super high compression and race gas or alcohol, but thats outta my league.

Anything is NOT possible and this is impossible. N/A B16A's won't even bust into the 200's. 240? No way!

Yep! 190-HP is reachable. 200-HP would make it world class.

thnks BDC, ok, heres a new twist. do you think that the b16 is capable of 240whp NA with everything BUT stroking the engine. big crazy cams and un-streetability is permitted. do you STILL think that the B16 can get to 240?

well, i believe it would be possible, but would take a very long time to get right. try running ~18:1 compression with everything else done. ive seen a D15 run 10s with 18:1 CR, not streetable, of course, but it CAN be done. everything would have to be custom machined (parts) though, it would be very expensive. but as for a daily driver, (street-legal) its pretty impossible. unless you go by manufacturer's claimed hp gains, then its very possible. you can get 500 hp out of bolt-ons, mang.

i think in ANY n/a situation .......a b16 will not make it that far ever....... people have type rs tapping oput at 225-235... what makes a 1.6 capable of more than a 1.8.......

pretty much every single local person ive talked to who knows anything about honda motors says the b16a sucks ***, and is not worth the $$.

1.6L isnt enough, period.

If there is a SOHC Civic running 10's out there, I'm sure a B16 could hit 240 hp with the 1.6 displacement. I'm sure some HIGH compression pistons and Skunk2 Stage III cams and other mess would do the trick.

impossible from what I know...especially considering that you want to leave the bottom end stock!!! chances are you'll fry the engine rebuilding the head and leaving the bottom stock...do both IMO and your goal could def. be more achievable

Nope! Sorry! It just isn't going to happen. Here, check out (the legendary) Frank Lin dyno page. He coaxed 180-HP out of a n/a B16A:

http://www.g-speed.com/eg2/dynoresults.html

I've never seen a n/a B16A dyno chart over 190. As the guy said above, some mag is shooting for 200. 240 is impossible, n/a...

i dont think it can be done at all unless you stroke the engine. 1.6 liters isnt enough and i dont think for one second that just some high comression pistons and some stage three cams with extra goodies will be enough to achieve the goal.

its funny as i read the rest of your post. my stubborn friend was saying the same thing about getting a single cam into the 10's. well you cant base how powerfull as car is on 1320 times. the major factor in that would be the weight of the car. if you have a 1200lb car you wont need much to get it down the track fast. so you CANNOT base any assumptions on 1/4 mile times. there are just to many variables when it comes to that. for example the D series(w/tranny) is (i belive) 100-200lbs lighter than a B series(w/tranny) correct me if im wrong. that is a HUGE weight savings. im sure if you do some resaerch that 10 second D series pushes AT THE MOST 200hp. i may be wrong about my whole theory but it seems legit to me. and you know that D series is in no way shape or form streetable. Bisi was running OVER 17:1 compression to run his D into the 10second time bracket.

Look, the problem with tuning Hondas, as it were, is they come from the factory in such a high state of tune. When Honda started making B16A's, they managed to break into the 'record books' by producing the first mass-produced 100-HP/liter motor, e.g. they made a 1600cc naturally aspirated motor that produced 160-HP. That in itself is pretty amazing, don't you think? How do you improve on something like that?

For one, you can increase the displacement. All the 1800cc B-series variants, which everybody on H-T loves so much, are based on the B16A, but we're strictly talking B16A here and it's hard as hell to improve on the original design.

So, to repeat myself, 190-HP is possible - maybe even 200-HP given enough time, money, and effort, but you can forget 240-HP n/a. Once again, there is no way that is going to happen - NO WAY!!!

I heard somewhere that car makes 280 hp.
