i'll start out with explaining the situation. i went out to my car, unlocked it and tried to open my door but it wouldn't open. since i had just washed my car earlier today i figured my doors were probably just frozen shut so i pulled really hard, but nothin happened. then i just decided to go in through the hatch. when i got in the car i realized the doors weren't unlocking although it sounded like they were working. the passenger lock works just fine, but now the driver door won't lock anymore.
when i try to lock it it just goes "click click click click click click" like a machine gun for about a second, then it just stops and it's still unlocked. when i open the door from the inside the door handle just stays out and i have to push it back in. so what's the deal with my lock? did i bust it when i pulled on my door or might it have somethin to do with the weather (it's -4 farenheit right now). thanks in advance

I had a similar problem on my 94 GSR. When I'd go to lock it, the passengers side would lock fine, but the driver's side did the "Machine gun" sound you were explaining. I took off my door panel and checked for any parts that were rubbing against each other. It ended up being that the rod that was attached to the door handle was rubbing on the inside of the door. I tried moving it around, but it didn't help. I know this sounds crazy, but a couple of good slams of the door solved my problem. I guess that would help seeing that I never had the problem until some kid side swiped me and caused $5k in damage!!!
I would pull the door panel and check the rods and connectors that go from the door lock to the door lock tab, inner and outer handles...
I had a problem w/ my passenger side door lock but it didn't make that machine gun sound like you mention.. but the inside handle not functioning normally/having to be pushed back suggests the rods either dislodged, broke, or got bent out of shape somehow...
what happened w/ my door lock was that it would make a "whine" and I could hear it activate.. I even saw the door lock tab try to move but it wasn't powerful enough to move to the lock or unlock positions.. it was kind of dumb having an alarm that closes the windows, sunroof, and locks the driver door.. but I would always have to manually check the passenger door to see if it was actually locked by the alarm..
the first thing I checked was the rods/connections.. they were fine.. so I bought a new door lock solenoid/motor for around $70 replaced it and all was well..
but in your case.. it sounds like something is stuck.. check the rods and connectors that go from the motor to the door lock tab and inner and outer handles.. either way.. you gotta pull the door panel to see whats going on..

open ur panel and check all the wiring and mechanisms. probably somethin loose. if u still cant find the problem take it to a dealer. passengers should always know not to slam doors when they leave...it leads to less rides for the "slammer"
