can't log out user name

can't log out user name
I cannot log out my friends username on my computer, and can't sign back in.... Whenever i click logout, it doesn't take me to the logged out successful screen where i can sign in under a new name. And its not from a slow *** dialup connection either. Somebody please shed some light for me, sorry if this is the wrong forum?

towards the top of the browser:
1) click on Tools, then on Internet Options
2) click on Delete Cookies... and wait till its done
3) click on Clear History
then come back to HT and logout
