Engine Sleeving questions... (please respond) (h22a) motor specifically
i'm wondering a couple questions about sleeving a honda engine mostly the h22a.
We all know the h22a has factory FRM sleeves which don't like forged pistons... now i'm mostly curious about the sleeving process.. i'm going to type you what i think it is and then you guys post if i'm on the right track or not....
Keep in mind H22a Closed DECK 93-95 model h22a.. not open deck..
********* QUESTION 1 **********
you would torque plate the top of the tech, line bore to match the diameter of the sleeve, press fit it in, and then mill the sleeve to match the top of the deck of the block.... (Essentially) this is the process right ?
********* Question 2 *************
the thing that get's me is are sleeves perfectly round and only like a barrel ? meaning there are no water jacket holes in side them or special process to install them ? if so could you describe them...
******** Question 3 *************
another question would be... when people install sleeves they they use a "torque plate" or that's not neccearay provided the pistons boring are all in spec and straight...???
******** Question 4 ****************
there are many makers of sleeve on the market, are they any that are bad for any type of piston other than the stock frm ones... like is there a sleeve only for turbo and one for another etc.... or all sleeves, metal or allow work the same way....
******** Question 5 ************
Our blocks are Aluminum however sleeves are steel, iron etc... these re-act differently to temperatures.. is there special clearances to look out for when building an engine ? are these going to have more pistons slap and require proper warm up before hard abuse...
******** Question 6 ************
pistons sometimes go sideways inside a stock sleeved block, and sometimes will go out the block.... does Aftermarket sleeves prevent this from happening.. meaning if something happens the piston would only score the sleeve and not go through it ????
sorry for the questions and stuff..
i'm curious because i could have somebody locally do this i'm just curious if there are any special ways to do it... some canadians' aren't blessed with contacts and stuff.. also shipping out motors to the USA and back would be about the cost of the sleeve job and work... so i'm curious...
thanx guys ! yourhelp is appreciated!

i got news awhile ago that hasnt been proven yet. but i talked to wiseco directly and they make a piston ring that goes onto forged pistons to drop into H22 motors. the piston rings r made by the same company that makes hondas OEM rings. just food for thought. at the time they were new and had no experience with reliability.
