Help with tires - size, brand, etc...
I have a 2001 PY ITR, and I have decided to go with Volk TE-37s in 16". I was wondering what tire would be an ideal fit.. Any brand and size info would be great.. If this matters, I also plan on lowering my R 2" max..
Thanx, Chris

In my experience with 16x7.0" Spoons, the RE010 in 215/45/16 is perfect. Afterall, Honda Japan specs them for their ITRs ;-)
HTH,
HTH,
I put Pirelli P7000 Summer tires in 215/40 R16 on, they were significantly cheaper than the 215/45s, which would have been a little over-diameter instead of a little under-diameter. They feel great on the car, and I'm fond of the P7000, they're quite grippy (160 tread if you care), work very well in the rain, and don't wear too fast. One of the 215/40 R16 Pirellis weighed 18 lbs, they advertise them as being light, but i haven't had a chance to weigh other tires, so take that for what it's worth. If you're lowering, you might be safer with a 205/45 R16, which is almost flush with a 7 inch wheel, but you'll need to talk to lowering people about that
That's the exact tire size I'm running on the 16x7 wheels I use for the street, except that the tires are kumho 712s - actually they're 215/40/16.
Michelin Pilot Sport 215/45/16 $220

Bridgestone Potenza RE 010 215/45/16 $170
Pirelli P7000 Summer 215/45/16 $125
Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico 205/45/16 $125
Dunlp SP Sport 9000 205/45/16 $130
Toyo Proxes T1-S 205/45/16 $140
Sumitomo HTR Z2 205/45/16 $95

Where do you get the RE010 in 215/45/16 besides online?
One local shop seems to think that the tires are for NSX fronts only and not a good tire for the Type-R. Also that they are $1000 for the set.

I too, have heard from people on this board, that the other sizes of RE010s are not very suitable for our cars...but I don't know if that's the case with different wheels, I'm assuming it's not.

The RE010 tire in the 215/45ZR16 size is designed specifically to go on the FRONT of the NSX. The belts are biased specifically to be used as a front (front left or front right) tire, and are biased differently from the 245/40ZR17 size which was designed for the NSX rear. Similarly, the compound is different in the front vs the rear. There's more information about the OEM NSX tires (which include these same sizes in the Yokohama A022 as well as the RE010) at http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/TireWheel/tiretech.htm
Some folks have tried these tires on the ITR with poor results and have reported this here. Unfortunately, I can't find the earlier posts because you can't do a search using a three-letter word like "NSX".
If Honda Japan specs the RE010 tire in this size, I THINK it's probably available there in a different model that is not corner-specific like the NSX tire is. But I think it's probably tough (if not impossible) to get that model RE010 in North America.
I would recommend using a different tire, one that was designed to be used at either end of a car.

Maybe we can move the discussion over to the other topic where we're talking about the same thing, so we don't have to repeat ourselves. It's at https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=45248
