1995 b18c1 block w/vtec head including cam shafts/gears,etc. Jdm valvecover. The head could possibly have bent valves from broken timing belt. However, im unsure about the bent valves and would have to pull the head to see. How much would you guys pay for something like this? I could get this for very cheap.

 

i would be very careful on buyin that swap... more damage could be done then you think.. is it a complete swap ??

If it is very cheap, and you have the knowledge to rebuild eninge do it! If the valves hit the pistons hard enough you might need to rebuild block internals too! I take it he might have been driving hard when this happend, you could be buying a lemon, or a little work fast hatch..

I would remove head, check everything for damage. Rebuild with tin. valve springs and racing valves and retainers.

 

lets say its dirt cheap. From a friend of mine's bro. actually. he got ripped off from a dealer when his timing went out. 3000 for a jdm block.
So...the timing belt went and the dealer claimed his engine is totally gone. And they scammed him for over 3g's because he doesnt know shiet about cars.
but wouldnt you say the most a broken timing belt can do is bent valves? Especially since he was driving at low speeds when it did break! they claim the pistons went bad but said the block was still usuable after they finished the swap. Im fawken **** myself hearing about his car and how he got ripped off. what do you guys think?

 

There could be quite a bit of damage, I wouldnt go into this thinking you will get a full swap for the face value. Expect to put some cash in for a new head possibly and new pistons at least. If hes willing to sell it, I'm down for a new project and still looking for another GSR block. PM me.

Well the first thing to do is to tear it aprat to check the damage.

Holed pistons.....bent valves.....worn cams....cracked/chunked sleeves....bent rod/s

The what about the tranny...

Before you can really say its worth X the owner of the motor should know EXACTLY whats bad and what salvageable on the motor so that a fair price can be determined.....worst case scenario 600 for the block and 700 for the tranny (if its still in good shape) so say 1300 to more if the rest of the motor is still good.

The seller should be just as interested in finding out whats left inside the motor.....unless he already knows and is trying to pull a fast one

 

the guy is my friends bro and he doesnt know shiet about cars but all ikno is that he got scammed over 3 gs. No tranny included.
but say how much are you guys willing to pay for the block plus head knowing that the timing belt went. I only ask because when i say dirt cheap for this block i really mean it. Lets say i can get this for about the cost of a universal muffler!! Would do you guys say

 

From the way it sounds, i'd pass on this one.. Even it it is a friend's brothers motor, much time and money is gonna be needed to get this motor running properly. Also no tranny.. There are motors that actually run well and are very well priced.. Take your time and keep searching..

Dude from my experience a "universal muffler" can be had for 50-100$. IF that is the case and that is about the price that he wants for the engine then I would go for it. IMO I would take it, tear it down, then rebuild it.

 

If you can get it that cheap, BUY IT! No need to ask us any questions.

 

finally someone actually read what i was trying to say. yes i can get it for that cheap. And plus.....it has a jdm gsr valvecover which is worth more than me what im paying for everything. I probably will pick it up tomorrow and pull the head and see how everything is. I'm thinking the worse.....bent valves. dont u guy think....from a broken timing belt while doing 35-40 mph? rarely do you see pistons fawkin up but i could be wrong also.
