Is the exhaust going to be loud if I take off the resonator?
I have a custom crush bent 2.25" cat back exhaust and when I got it done, I asked them to take the stock exhaust resonator and cut it so its wider on both ends and had it put back into the custom exhaust. Now that I know more about civic, I was thinking that that might be a constricting point for the exhaust. Does that sound right? But my real question is I was thinking about removing it. Will the exhaust be really loud or about the same that it is right now. I have a stock cat and a matrix exhaust if that helps. Right now, its a little loud but I can deal with it. Will removing the resonator make it louder? So basicly having a custom crush bent cat back consisting of a pipe going straight from the cat to the muffler with no resonator.
It will be a little bit louder, but not so much that you can't handle it.
I guess it just depends on the mods, and type of muffler. From my experience, removing the resonator will cause a pretty loud increase. It will become much more "raspy." Why not just replace the stock resonator with a bigger/aftermarket one?
I've driven a 6th gen EX and a 6th gen Si around with no cat or muffler and the EX sounded like a nascar while the Si sounded stock. It was weird.
i took my resonator off, BIG MISTAKE, it sounded like a pack of bumble bees behind my car. probably just depends on what exhaust you have though
