Default 1991 Engine check light help

Sup all, i'm new to the CRX forum, not to HT, just bought a nice 1991 si last nite, but already ran into a slight little problem. Since i made a big drive to meet this guy i didnt want to turn back and not buy the car but he hadnt smogged it. Said everything should pass with no prob, i bought it and on the way back home engine check came on. I drove the car little after i got home as well and bascially noticed that the light only comes on when the car is going at a certain cruising speed (fwy) or something where the rpm stays in the same range. On the street it didnt come on at all. Anyone had anything similar like this happenen to them? Anyone know what code this may be just based on the description i just gave. Motor runs strong, no strange idle, noises, chokes, nothing.. maybe o2? I havent jumped it yet, will do that at lunch today but wanted to see what your guys opinion is.

Tks to all for any answers in advance.. i'll post up pics soon

Locate the ECU. It is located under the carper on the passengers side foot rest. Its big covered by a metal plate. Look at the hole in the metal plat when the CEL comes on. Count the flashes and that will tell you exactly wats going on. Long flash is 10s, Short flashes are 1s(ones), Theres also pauses inbetween codes.

don't jump it. i'm assuming your talking about the ECU, not the car, right? you don't need to.. just do what those two above me told you to.

You could also reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for a while and see if the CEL goes away. If it still doesn't go away then check the codes and fix what's wrong...

little update.. the light comes and goes.. its not on everytime. It came on at lunch today so i tried to jump it first with a paper clip but cel did not blink on gauges cluster so i moved the pass carpet aside and tried to read the blinking LED but unsucesfully. Have done it on my hatchback before so i knew about one long blink 10 short blinks 1 each, then longer pause and all over again. But the damn LED blinked like an alarm LED sort off.. no breaks in betwee, no long blinks, just keeps blinking at the same rate WTF? A possible electrical problem? Like i said the car runs/idles awesome. I basically need to smog it and want to get rid of the CEL before then so that they dont fail me. Advice fellas?

Tks guys

Ismar

nope, will do.. as soon as i get home i'll reset it and check tonight if it comes on. I hope its just something minor... to be honest i really dont care if something is even wrong with the motor because i bought it for the body only, but i do need the damn thing to be smogged so i can continue with the project.

Sounds like and O2 (oxygen sensor) code. They come and go at times. Anyways the O2 code is 1 flash. There is no need for a jumper to read the codes.
