Skunk 2 SOHC Head Build?
I wanna build my D16Z6 head, but don't know a good price.
I saw Skunk came out with a lot of new product and I've heard wonders about it.
For Skunk 2 valves, vavle springs, valve spring retainers, cam shaft, cam gear, intake manifold, and a Holley throttle body....I'm looking at about $1800......plus another $1000 or close to, for a port and polish. Would it be worth it?
I ask cause I see Gude head packages for around $1300-$1500, and someone else here had a JG head for sale, new, for $700 or $1000, can't remember. I'd like to use just one brands product, so no ZEX cam, and everybody seems to have Crower already, so I'd like to use some newer products that are avalible.

i had on my SOHC I/H/E clutch flywheel port polished head bored throttle body and port matched intake manifold and reprogrammed ECU (planned on getting valvesprings, retainers, cam, cam gear but ran outa $$) with just those mods my car ripped pretty good..i could hang with modded Si's pretty easy..id say go for it..you pay for what you get..

How much was teh port and polish on the head, port matching the intake manifold and bore the throttle body. Cause I need to spend as less as possible and if it's cheaper to do this to my stock manifold and throttle body the better.
i had my head p&p for $200 at a shop near where i work in va and port matching was $60. the rest of the work i did. boring the trottle body is easy, just get a cylinder hone from pep boys or somwere, an industrial drill (i already had one), and a one of the gauges, forgot what there called. you can do it easy, just make shore you keep spaying cold water on it to keep the temp down when boring. you just have to have a machine shop to make a plate for it. so as you can tell, i am an a realy tight budget too (and i'm just a cheap bastard). you can also build the bottom end for cheap, i got d16a8 (zc) pistons witch have a bigger dome for higher commression for $40 with the rods from http://www.thepartstrader.com and had the rods shot peened (strangthend) for $5 a rod at the same shop. and if you building a D, get the y8 head gasket, it's the best one for NA D's.
dont know yet, havnt finished the engine, but i dont think i will, all i got in my car now is a d15b7 with a head swap with the built head. the new bottom end i am still building, i want to do the hole swap in one day since i need my car every day, so i need all new parts so i wont have to waist time swaping engine parts. but i' keeping the old engine to put into a drag crx with a custom turbo and build that as my next project. this is just for my daily driver. my drag car will have 50 times as many mods and hp as my daily driver will. read my sig (my sig is my daily not the drag car) cant wait till i get them both runing so i can run them against eachother. one nitrous D against a custom turbo D. cant wait. lol

wow all that money into a SOHC.....good luck
I've driven a built from top to bottom D16Z6 in a EH before at the track. And let me say, there's almost nothing better than seeing the face on the driver of the GSR that you just beat. It gets even a little better, when you pop your hood after the race and show him is was a D16Z6 that he never gave credit to.
See it this way......from my thoughts......just for a minute.....
.....a full GSR swap cost an average $4000 with install, from what most people say here on HT. For less than that, I can get a D16Z6 swap with a complete internal motor build, that will make me faster than a GSR. And by the time the GSR gets $3000+ for his engine build.....your buying turbo for your motor thats is already to handle it.....and you'd still beat the GSR.

where did you get info on the skunk2 d series cam...where can I buy it?
It doesn't give a price on the skunk 2 cam for d series...it has said TBA for the past year...

Didn't think that z6 and y8 cams were directly interchangeable. I was under the impression that you had to alter the timing to use a z6 cam in a y8 and vice versa. I've read similar issues on other forums with the zex cams. For example, crower has this on their web site regarding z6/y8 cams :
Note: When ordering you must specify Z after cam part number, if engine is D16Z6 or Y after cam part number if engine is D16Y8.
