why is my stock b16 so rich? information inside.
ok all my vacuum is good now. it caused a bouncy idle. now my car is running rich. i will take it up to 7200 rpm, and it will backfire, not allowing me to take it up higher, so i let off the gas. why am i running so rich? my distributor is advanced. err my way of looking at it is the distributor is CLOSER to the fire wall. so tahts advanced right? i have it almost all the way . and it still fuel bogs at 7200. growl! how do i time this beast? because i cant find any notches on my crank pulley. thanks again h-t for anyhelp .
They're there. 3 bars white, red, white and then 1 white one by itself (which is TDC) if going counter clock wise, the 3 bars will tell you how many degrees b4 TDC. They are there they have to be. There on the inside edge of the pulley closest to the block. Get some good lighting and then mark them with whiteout, chalk or anything that will show up.

You can find the TDC mark correct?? When you have up on the cam gears and thats all lined up look at the crank can you see the notch for TDC. If the answer is yes look ahead of it about 1/2 or 3/4 of an Inch and its right there all 3 of them. Sorry dont have a tape to give you exacts distance. Its probabally just cover in yuck and hard to see. Clean it with some carb/brake cleaner or WD/40 just something to clean it off. Then take white out and remark it.
I'm curious - how did you manage to tell if the timing belt is on right if you can't find the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley? The cams might be lining up right, but if the crank isn't at TDC then your cams will probably BOTH be off a tooth.

uhhhh ur timing is RETARDED not advanced thats ur problem put it to stock advancing ur timing doesnt help unless u dyno the car when u do it so u dont over do it.....and u turned it the wrong way anyways....fix it and it may help reset the ecu also it could help check ur o2 sensor make sure its not covered in black soot
the o2 sensor question. you say check to see if its covered in black soot. its not. and if it was a faulty sensor why wont the damn thing throw a o2 sensor code?
also i thought dizzy closer to firewall is advancing. and dizzy closer to front of car is retarding?

and the whole timing belt thing. yeah im pretty retarded. i thought you ment is my new timing belt on correctly as in is iton? i dont have any idea what your talking about if its off its teeth. basically a shop did this swap. i didnt have the space or tools to take upon this task. but tehy ogt the enigne in. and i only paid a few hundred bucks for taht. now it my job to trouble shoot. and i ma leaving for the airforce in less than a month.and i HAVE TO HAVE IT RUNning swell before i go.

yeh thats advanced im thinking backwards cause hondas are backwards in relation to chevys sorry try and get the both o2s running vacumes all correct?
vacuums are ALL correct. i spent a hell of two days figuring them out.

timin wont make it backfire unless its retarded like i said before advanced will only make it ping......check this out care of my buddy phattwhppin_crx make sure ur vacumes are correct do u have both O2 sensors hooked up in the right order?
yes my o2 sensors are correct, teh green one is going to c16 and the gray one is going to c8.
