Default mods to an 88 automatic?

i am considering making some mods to my 88 dx...probably an Si fuel injection first, and maybe a turbo. my question is will i have to make any additional mods for the auto trans? would a turbo even work with an automatic?.....i am not willing to swap for a manual, i like the automatic....crazy as it sounds...

If your going to put on the Si (it wont be from an SI it will be from an EX) MPFI you will have to get the intake, throttle body, ECU, and some other things all from a auto 90-91 Civic EX. You cant use the intake and throttle body from a manual car on the auto car. Plus your going to have to get the ecu from an auto with MPFI since yours wont work with MPFI. As for the turbo after the MPFI swap there wouldnt be any problems with having an auto other than it being a weaker trans than the manual.

hey vince, i see you have some crx parts for sale....do you have a center counsole from an Si in good condition? would one fit in my dx? also, what about rear disc conversion, do you have the parts and is it worth the swap? does it really make a difference in stopping power?

Well first there is no difference between the DX console and the Si console I will have an extra but I have to finish stripping apart the car.
As for the rear disc conversion if you ask on here it will be split if they are better than drums or not. The biggest thing that I can see as an advantage would be the ease of changing the rear brakes much easier to do disc's than drums. As for stopping power I dont know yet as I have yet to do the swap but once again people will say drums are just as good and some will say that rear disc's are better. I personally would recommend doing the swap even though I havent yet I think that they look better and there are more options for aftermarket for disc than drums. As for me having them for sale the parts car that I currently have the rear drivers side wheel was pushed way inward so I dont even know if any of the brake parts on that side are good yet. I know you couyld probably maybe mate up some of the parts to your DX trailing arm and make that work but I dont know what kind of shape its in so I wouldnt want to sell it if they wouldnt work.

are you sure the counsels are the same? in my dx theres open space between the shifter counsole and the lower part of the dash where the radio and ash tray are, in other words it two separate pieces...in the Si crx and civic ive seen, its all one piece from the radio down to the shifter with no space in between, it looks alot better and seems to give more separation from the drivers and passenger side...

What do you have a CRX or a Civic?? I am almost positive that all of the consoles from 88-91 CRX's are all the same if yours is different than someone changed it out before if you have a CRX that is.

nope, i have a civic....so i guess it should be pretty easy to find one if all crx's got 'em huh? by the way, would i be better off installing a turbo with the stock FI? it seems like more work swapping the FI than just slappin' a turbo on...

Well even though its possible I would not recommend a turbo without the MPFI swap you will notice quite a bit of power just from that swap alone and plus its a lot easier to deal with fuel management with a turbo with having MPFI rather than just DPFI. I would say find the parts do the MPFI swap then go turbo better to do it that way then to go turbo and than MPFI you would have to change quite a few things. Plus the turbo will respond better with the MPFI over the DPFI. As for the consoles I dont know what you would have to do to get the CRX one to fit into the civic I know its possible but not sure how to do it. Do a search there are plenty of topics that say about that. You may have to put the CRX dash into it for it to work but once again I dont know??
