cause they still got 240hp out of the new 3.0 v6 which is plenty of power. if it isn't broke don't fix it i guess, besides they can't out power the TL-S/CL-S.

Correct. Also keep in mind how much more expensive and complex that would be. The Acura NSX is a DOHC 3.0 liter V6 @270 HP !!
(not sure if the newer ones are the same...probably more)

i think the newer nsx is a 3.2 w/ 290hp, but yeah a dohc v6 would increase the price, unless through mass production they could keep costs down by using the motor in other cars. isn't the 3.5 V6 that Nissan is using in many of it's cars a DOHC V6?

The old v6's used 3.0 DOHC. As someone has already said, they can't outpower their more expensive cars. That's just a poor marketing move.

Most people who buy an Accord aren't looking for 280 Hp either.

because its rather expensive to design a whole new engine vs them reusing the J-series they use now. And producing SOHC engines are probably cheaper.

Imagine saving $1 in production costs per unit, and you sell 1 million units, thats a million bucks you saved. Same idea, except i bet an SOHC design saves more than a buck per unit.

maybe in the future they might... I seriously think honda needs one solid DOHC inline 6 engine design that can be used for the CL/TL/AV6/NSX/Oddessey/etc... each cammed and tuned differently for reliability/lower end power/quietness/etc for each application. Like Nissans VQ35.

I don't know about whether it's SOHC or DOHC, but I think it is overly spread into most of their Nissan models. I understand they can make volume savings, but they are stretching it too far IMO. I believe it robs models of their respective identity up to a certain point.

Just like GM did with their 3.1L, 3.4L, and 3.8L.

Yeah it would have been nice to see a DOHC V6 for the new accord, but it probably would have cost too much anyway. What amazes still to this day is how the NSX with a "measly" normally aspirated 290 hp V6 still blasts to 60 in under 5 seconds! I dont know how they did it, but damn that engine pulls! Look at the 350Z, more torque, newer design, larger engine, and almost a full second behind in acceleration. Everyone else need huge motors, twin turbos, superchargers, etc to pull off that kind of acceleration. That idea of a Honda DOHC inline 6 with I-VTEC would probably rock.

I believe the NSX is all aluminum. It's all about power to weight ratio...

Dont forgot.. the NSX is mid-engine (40/60 weight distribution on 3100 pounds of alumminium). They also used titanium connector rods inside.. Nice touch!

If i'm not mistaken the NSX is the fastest N/A 6cyl car in the world (stock of course). I've seen stock ones run 12.7-12.9 in the 1/4 and 0-60 in under 5secs as stated above.

GM & Ford do it to save $$$ & most of their cars are cookie cutters - same car but different looks.

Nissan has been using that same DOHC V6 since 1990, it started in the 300ZX Z32, Maxima got it in 1995 & they simply bored/stroked it out to 3.5L for more HP/TQ later, absolutely nothing is wrong w/ that design. the crank/block is flawless using racing technology to build it's strength.

using SOHC is for efficiency, not power. Honda is proving a point by getting 240hp in a SOHC-V6 to show Nissan up when they use a DOHC design. they already said that 240 is enuff in a family car, & w/ the CL-S 3.2L they can get 260HP, just add CompTech bolt-ons & 290 shouldn't be that hard to reach - still on SOHC.

The older Z's didn't use the VQ engine, they used the VG. As far as I know the two engines are THAT completely different, but I'm positive Nissan never put the VQ into the Z until now.

I also think that Honda is developing their new DOHC V6 to implement their Ivtec. U cant use ivtec on the sohc. Even honda doesnt have a DOHC V6 ivtec yet, i hope when they come out is going to do well in all areas (HP,TQ,Emission etc.)
