Engine RPM sputter/drop
Hope someone could help. I read the recent post about the guys car who keeps dying at startup, but my situation is a little different.
When I start the car sometimes (when it has been driven already that day - not a fresh morning start, when the RPMs stay high), you know how the RPMs jump up right when the key is turned to about 600-800. Well recently, when I start the car, the RPMs will initially go up, and then sink down really low, to the point where the engine almost sputters a little. Then they go back up. Hasn't ever died though <knock on wood> .
I talked to a friend, and he mentioned that he thought it was normal for cars with lightweight flywheels to do this. I have a Toda flywheel, so I dont know.
Anyone?
ADDITIONALLY: When I am in neutral, and I give the engine a little rev, the RPMs will sink down the same way (lower then they used to). Almost causing a sputter.
Thanks,
Jon

when u are idling and give it little tap on the gas, the rpm drops right??, try to keep on tapping it, very lightly...will the car sputter then??, because i have the same problem...but i heard it was normal, and i'm running a stock flywheel.
Are you converted to OBD1? Just curious..
Anyways, reset your ecu, that might help... but the problem might also be back..
Have you changed the oil?
The last thing I'd do is adjust the idle.. but once you do that.. things never seem to be the same.

How long ago did you install the flywheel? When I first installed my lightweight flywheel, the rpms were idling a little low around 300-500rpms with a bit of fluctuation. But after a bit of time, the ECU adjusted itself and now the car idles at a steady 800 rpms.
yes it sounds pretty normal. My car does something similar and i am completely stock besides intake. in leu of the post above about rotor and plugs, etc... how many miles do you have on the car?

Thanks for the responses.
... a little update.... The sputter was coming from my purge line rattling (fixing that now). As for how low the RPMs are dropping, maybe I just never noticed the because it was silent. About how low do all of your RPM's drop to when you give a little rev and let of?

As for the Lightweight FW, I have the Comptech 6.7 and I see no difference in the idle rpm, and a lighter FW should cause no diff.

When I start my car it revs high while warming up. After a few minutes I come to stop and the rpm comes down to 2000 rpm and stays there for a few secs. Then it goes to 800 rpm. After the car is completely warmed up the car runs normally.
Why does it get stuck around 2000 rpm. When I tap the gas it goes up then falls and holds to 2000 rpm. Then it goes to 800 rpm.
