Default oil change

i am having a debate with my friend who has a new car and he says that u should change the oil at 1000 miles because of engine shavings grinding his engine. I say that u can wait till 3000 what do u guys think? thanx

Well from what i hear at work, Honda, I was told that at 3000. The salesman do tend to tell the customer not until 7500, but the is not right. Every 3000 miles

You can do either/or.

I always do mine at 2500 miles instead of the full 3000. There have been times where I've seen cars go over 10,000 miles on one oil change. Not much happens, at least, not much that can be seen or felt (ie: wearing down, or lack of performance).

For a BRAND new car, I would probably change oil ever 2000 miles for the few 4000 miles, and then after that go to the regular 2500-3000.

if it is the first oil change i would change it at 1000 miles and 3000 miles there after.

You're right and he is wrong. 2000 mile if you are racing all the time.

i dont know about new(er) honda recommendations, but where i work at toyota every car 96 and up we recommend it at 5000mile intervals, i do mine at 2500 but my car is old anyways

New cars come with an owner's manual. Inside, it will list the recomended minimum maintainance schedules to keep your warranty valid.
