Where can I get a sheet of carbon fibre?
Anyone know where I can get a sheet of carbon fibre? Bennen Industries? I'm just looking to fill in a hole in the center console ( because I took my radio out and sold the tray etc...) and I want to put some gauges in there.
I'm talking about a hard piece and not a sheet before it's made into anything. Ya know how when a CF hood is made and they lay the sheet of it in the mold and then 'clear coat' it or something like that.. I want' a little 'board' of it that I can fasten in there.
Any suggestions?

[edit] didn't realize you were looking for a hardened sheet
...those are rolls. maybe contact that company and they would know who you could get it from (or maybe they can do it).

Yeah, i was looking for something hardened. So those are just rolls per yard? So then I guess I would just have to get some epoxy or something and then try to make a sheet?
yeah those are just plain rolls by the yard. i'm sure that company could point you to someone that can harden the stuff (or maybe they could even tell you how). worth a shot, right?
Its not the true way to make carbon fiber panels and what not.....but it'll work: http://www.bryanf.com/info/carbonf1.htm
I believe the real way involves the use of a vacuum. But if you just need to make a small flat plate to fill in the stereo area....this is just what you need.
Also, if you're willing to give up the cf look you could just go plastic. Look in your area for a plastics distributor, there is one near me in Riverside Ca. I went there to get material for mudflaps for my lil bro's subaru and we found some neat stuff. They sell sheets of textured black plastic in various thicknesses. The texture is very similar to that of the plastic that surrounds the stock radio. The best part about it is that its heat moldable! Definitely neat stuff.

Hey that'a good page. but then i read these couple things...
Keep in mind the limitations of your carbon fiber parts:
1. It's flammable. Carbon Fiber doesn't make a good firewall.
2. It's conductive. Watch out for wires and electrical devices.
3. It's not heat proof. Watch out for hot engine/exhaust parts and maintain a safe distance.
I was planning to mount a vafc, timer, and boost controller there...
I'm gonna try the plastic thing..

There's "Compressed Carbon Fiber With Nitrile Sheet Gasketing" available at http://www.mcmaster.com (McMaster-Carr). Search for "Carbon Fiber". Not sure if that would be useful for your purposes.
Carbon fiber gasketing delivers top performance under extreme conditions. Excellent for saturated steam service. It's easy to handle and cut, yet provides high torque retention and stability. Operating temp. range is -40° to +650° F. Max. pressure is 2000 psi. Color is black.

It isn't that hard to make yourself...flat CF parts are the easier compared to curved or rounded parts.
I make CF sheets and plates all the time.

im looking also but i want to put 3 2 1/16th gauges and an avcr and it doesn't have to be cf for the meantime i just went out and got a piece hard plexiglass laminite or some stuff like that dont remember but am gonna cut and trim then spray flat black
I suggest ABS plastic instead of Acylic/Plexiglass. The ABS is so much better to work with and is more forgiving than Plexi. Plus ABS usually comes in Black.
You should be able to find ABS sheets at a sterio install shop....or McMaster Carr

If you want a good book that goes into fabricating CF items, you should check out "Fiberglass & Composite Materials" by Forbes Aird!
