Remote car starter on a 91 manual Teg?
Does anyone know what will work with manual and or if there is a way to make the "auto only" starters work on our manual cars? Please help. I'm tired of getting into a cold car and sitting there waiting forever for the motor to warm up b4 I drive it.
I wouldn't install it on a manual trans. car. We had one come through the shop and the owner didn't tell us it had it on it. When the tech went to get the car to pull it into the shop, he hit the button on the remote to disarm the alarm, the car started up and backed into another car and pushed thar car into another one. All this with the e-brake on. He could have been run over if he was behind it!!!
catch me on aol instant messenger(funkylemons) and ill explain this to you.. I install alarms and remote starters daily.. I also sell manual standard starters!

Before you do it I would get in your car in first gear with the e-brake on and turn your car to the start position for 10 seconds. You might change your mind.

I use to have remote start on my civic way back in the day.If I had a choice to do it again I wouldn't because it's just more crap under your dash.I remember one day I was working under the dash of my car and I accidently knocked my car into gear.At the time I was busy doing something so I just said to myself I'll take it out of gear later (note my ebrake was also off and I was parked on the street in front of my house)Later after I was done I went in the house and cleaned up then came outside to go somewhere and like I usually did hit the auto start button then my car started and went driving down the street.I had to run after it luckily my window was down and I jumped through it and pulled the E-brake and my car stalled out probably less than a foot away from my neighbors van that was parked out in the street.(Funny story looking back at it if anyone saw me they probably tripped out)It was also fun scaring the crap out of people in parking lots while you were walking out to your car though, but if you were to ask me if I would do it again I would have to say No!
Remote starters for manual trans cars have a few extra features.
You must leave the car running (with the remote) when you get out of the car, close, AND LOCK the door.
The "brain" now knows that the engine is running, the transmission is in neutral, and the doors are locked.
Stop the engine with the remote.
If the door is opened for any reason, the car will not remote start, unless you go through that whole procedure again.
If you follow the same rules, (Lock doors while engine running EVERY TIME) and add a seperate door pin switch and relay(s), (Or an alarm that kills the ignition if the door is opened) and of course another relay for the handbrake, you could do it. Handbrake alone won't do nothing, the car will crank (and move) for about 6-10 seconds, and it'll do that three times at least!
Though it would NOT prevent the accident described above with the mechanic pressing the wrong button.
My car has a remote start.
And I assure you:
I have the only keys in my possesion,
the doors are locked,
the garage is locked,
it was running in "remote start" when I last locked the doors,
and it will NOT START if the handbrake is not applied, or a door has been opened since.

I have a remote start on my FD, and you have to ARM the remote start feature before you get out of the car.
It helps that I have a turbo timer, so I always have to leave the car in neutral anyways...but it will check the neutral switch to make sure you are in neutral before you can arm it. And likewise, it disarm if you open the door, or hit any of the window buttons, or anything like that.
