Need transmission help: 92 auto 4cyl
I have a 92 auto 4cyl that has been a bugger to diagnose.
One day, started it up and the D4 indicator was lit and stayed lit along with whatever other gear I was in. Park, reverse, neutral all worked fine. All of the forward gears acted like it was stuck in at least 3rd gear... sounded like it was pulling for all its worth but no power.
There is a parasitic drain on the battery somewhere, so I discovered (inadvertently) that if the computer is reset, then the problem (and all symptoms) goes away completely... temporarily. The first time it went away for 20 minutes. Next time a week. One power flush of the tranny later and it went away for 1000+ miles. Swapped in used tranny computer, sat for a week or two and it is acting up again.
Only now the symptoms are slightly different. When the problem first started, the D4 light was flickering - inconsistently, but more on than off. After the problem started re-occurring, the light would come on steady. No codes thrown.
Now when I go to start it up, the D4 light is flashing - like it is throwing a code. I think the computer came out of a '92 EX instead of an LX (mine), so I don't know if that has any influence or not.
Anyone have any links or information on interpretting a transmission code? I would really rather avoid having to pull the whole tranny and split it open to replace the valve body solenoids, but that is my next guess.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Darren

I had the same problem once,
suggest to check troble code, but first take a look at the sensors and connectors.
ther are 2 of them (sensors) in the front and the rear of trans.
connectors are mounted on trans. they are usually green next to each other just left of valve cover....ckeck for corrosion. if connectors are fine sensor(s) might be bad (get troble codes).
