Does anybody know HF's gear ratios?
I have a 90' HF and was fiddling around with the cartest program to find out my 1/4 and 1/8 mile times with the ZC I am about to order. And was gonna see how much slower it would be with the HF tranny as opposed to the Si tranny. Do any of you know the gear artios for the HF so I can put them into the program?
HF gears are really long and are designed for the sole purpose of gas mileage. Go with an Si tranny, I heard it makes a big difference over a HF tranny. I have the original drivetrain in my 91 CRX Si completely stock, it has 171k miles, burns oil, but it still hauls compared to newer sohc hondas.
i do know of a friend of a friend around here--did his ZC swap several years ago, and kept the Hf trans with the intention of putting on a turbo in the future. when he ran it at the track, he had just shifted into third at the finish line. and it was NOT fast. at all.
the idiot decided to "fully build" his ZC for a turbo setup, it took has taken about 4 years to date because he had to order all this custom stuff because no one made anything for ZC's, the car sat so long that the rings rusted to the block. the guy is a dick to everyone, so everyone just thinks of him and laughs.

I got stuck with an HF tranny that came off a DX in a scrapyard for my SI
, so I can give you first hand experience on what an HF tranny feels with an SI engine, its crap, top speed of 100mph(110mph downhill with a favorable wind and if you lean forward). Its not worth the time, effort, money or even your mere thoughts to use one. Unless your doing this for gas of course and even then I suggest you get a real HF Crx.
However in response to what EFWhore said above, 1st gear is not in the least bit crappy, its pretty much 1st and 2nd of an si tranny into one, but he's right about the rest, every gear after 1st sucks.

yeah there isn't anything stock on a HF that should be kept after a swap
except the exhaust manifold (for your turbo).

dohh didn't think about that
another thing with an HF tranny and a d16a6 you can hit the rev-limiter and 90 mph at the same time in second gear. you use 3rd as fifth and then it even sucks.
here you go. supossedly there was another model with higher FD (3.88)

you can use the fifth gear in your si trans to lower your top rpms, but thats about all they're good for. the exhaust manifold and the wiring are good to keep.
