im not sure what kind of tranny i have, but i have a sohc zc motor... so im guessing its that tranny....
anyways, i dont like how the motor is at such a high rev at cruising speeds on the highway... for example, just going 120km/h the car sounds like it needs a 6th gear!
i dont have a tach yet, but i tried maxing out each gear...
1st gear : max at 40km/h
2nd gear: max at 80km/h
3rd gear: max at 120km/h
4th gear: max at 140km/h
5th gear: .... havent maxed it yet but it easily went past 175km/h
my point is, im looking for a tranny that doesnt rev so high at highway speeds.. my 5th gear doesnt sound that much different than 4th gear
anysuggestions on what trannys are better?
TIA

change the final drive, I think, I'm not shure though, but a DX final drive in your trany will make your gear longer..
correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty shure it's right
see ya

ok if it's an SI final drive it has a 4.25 final drive while a dx or DOHC ZC has 3.88 and a HF has something like 2.75. It sounds like you have a si final drive (4.25) I have a 3.88 gears and shaft if you want to swap them. Let me know and we'll make a deal. BTW It's not to hard to do yourself but If you have limited experiance in tranny it's best to find someone to do it. I can swap out the gears for you if you want to ship your tranny but It will take about two weeks from when you send it out until you recieve it again ( I can switch them the day it arrives and get it back on it's way to you the next day) (unless you pay to overnight it) let me know
From personal experience with an hf tranny on a si engine, you'll cruise on the highway at a much lower rpm and it is less noisy when compared with the si tranny. However, your car will be a lot slower and you will not be able to contend with a real si engine/tranny crx, not worth it at all IMHO.

SIRX - i will see if my local shop that i frequently visit can do this for me at a reasonable price... thanks for ur advice.
yea, i understand that my car would be a little slower once i get to 5th.. but mpg is what im concerned about... since i drive ALOT.
thanks again for ur input

Just my 2 cents here, but DONT DO IT. I dunno, but from personal exp. your car wont be a little slower, it will be alot slower. Its like 2 difrent cars. Ive used both a DX tranny and an SI tranny on my zc (dohc). and the diffrence is unbelivable. Like I said, 2 diffrent cars.
I noticed a huge difference on my car too. My SI tranny had torque in every gear for every down shift. My DX tranny had better torque in 1st and 2nd, but 3rd on sucked. But with longer gears, I've been told you'll get a higher top speed.
Like what was said above, you won't be a little slower, you won't even be slow, you'll be DAMN slow! Even rinky-dink 88' si crxs with bad timing belts will hand you your ***, and its a nice slow walk too so you can have time to regret having an hf type tranny.
If you want a beater and I mean a real beater for gas mileage and being ultra quite get a HF crx.

That rinky dink 88 rex with bad timing and also is in desparate need of a valve job, has a bad azz driver, but Yellowcrx1991 is right about the HF tranny, if you don't like the high rev sound get a better stereo
And BTW, ZC motors are not SOHC they are DOHC , so you might not have a ZC Tranny anyways
