bro got screwed... kinda OT
First off, this isn't prelude related but the prelude guys are the ones i know and talk to, so if the mods feel it needs to be moved to General then do so...
My brother (car dumb) has a 95 Dodge Avenger and just had a final tune-up at the end of his warranty (114,000 miles). They replaced the timing belt, head gasket, plugs among other things. One week to the day later, he's driving home from about 5 miles out and he hears a noise coming from under the hood through first, second, and the beginning of third gears. He gets home and about 30 minutes later goes to move the car. It starts, goes 10 feet and cuts off suddently so he calls me, so i come to look at it. Check oil, seems relatively new even though they weren't supposed to change it (brother wanted me to show him how). SO after another minute or two I find out that the timing belt is not turning. You try to crank the car and neither of the cam gears turn, and obviously neither does the timing belt. I can't see the crank at the bottom of the belt but i'm guessing either its not turning or its stripped the belt already (probably not turning).
They are on their way to get the car and tow it back to look at it. Sounds to me like maybe the motor's locked down? but in any case is definately the fault of the Dodge dealer. Can anyone think of anything that could cause this that's not related to the work they just did? Just wanna cover all my options and prepare. Guy on the phone mentioned something about one of the cams stripping, i dont see this happening at all.
Thanks for your help and lemme know of any questions!
