Engine Builders.... Any way to ID a crank?
Well, I might be needing to pick up a GSR crank and was wondering if there were any markings or stampings on the crank to identify the engine that it came from. I didn't think I'd really need this info since I was planning on getting a complete shortblock, but any info would help, I figure a lot of the drag racers here actually build engines for folks and could help me out. Thanks guys.

I assume you know its a b-series and need to know whether gsr vs. LS or CRV ?
I'd suggest the rod journal comparison, perhaps if you have an old GSR or LS rod bearing, the LS journal and bearing is physically wider than the GSR one ... if oyu have a micrometer, measure width of the rod journal and compare to Helms for GSR.
another way you can accurately measure stroke to stroke and divide by 2 ... you need a tool with at least 10 thous measurement accuracy. ~87.2mm is correct gsr stroke and 89mm is ls/crv ... you have to be able to tell apart 1.8mm measurement, by measuring stroke to stroke you should get 2.6mm more when measuring an ls/crv crank... keep a mind that stroke is from centerline of crank to center line of journal .. don;t expect ot get gsr or ls strokes, expect to see one is more than th other. PM me with measurements if you're lost ..
if its an R crnak it will have an R stamped on it.
