Default so called honda specialists

to make a long story short, one of my boys took apart my head so i could upgrade my valve train, when we got the head all back together and put on, there was no v-tec. after 3 weeks of scratchen our heads we couldn't figure it out. and believe me, we have tried everything, i even did a search on v-tec threads and still no luck. so the only thing else to do was to take it to the honda dealership and have a honda specialist run a diagnosis. so i leave my car there and after about 2 hours, i get a call from honda saying that there was no oil on the dipstick and that was my problem and so he says "do you want me to put more oil in?" well of course i said, but you would think that they would do this first before calling me (it was my fault there was no oil because my rings are bad but they will be replaced when i put my new pistons in).. so as i'm pulling into the service department, i see my car zooming around the corner and i'm listening for that v-tec to pop but it just sounds like an ls, and it actually feels like an ls too. so the honda guy comes back and says "still no v-tec" so now i gotta wait around for another hour so they can come up with something else. so then they try to hook up a tester to the ecu but they couldn't get the right readings because i had converted it to OBDI. so then they try to brush me off telling me to come back tomorrow with the oem OBDII in and i was like "NO, its in the trunk and i'll install it in two minutes" then with the stock ecu in, another tech takes it out for a spin with the tester still installed. when he comes back, he states that the v-tec is working and says to keep the stock ecu in when i take it home. so as i'm walking to the cashier to pay 70 bucks i felt that i shouldn't have paid, the service representative says and i quote "OBDI ecu's didn't come with v-tec" right then and there i knew that i was never going to a honda specialist ever again because i know just as much or even more than they do. i could have argued with the guy, but after all, he's a "HONDA SPECIALIST" and here is the reciept of there so called diagnosis and by the way, i still have no v-tec.

i have found that the ones that do the best work are the guys who do it for fun in little garages and usually have the best prices.

dealers are too expensive and give you the run around

99% of all dealerships try to rip you off. They told me my car has never been in an accident, well I strip the interior and guess what I find, tack weld marks .

When was the OBDI put in? After the head work, or before?

Yes there are good dealerships that do good work but if they charge $60 an hour for labor, they are rippin you off.

before, and the v-tec would actually "pop" and pull hard up to 8500 rpm's.

although it may be true that 99% of dealership SALESPEOPLE try to rip you off, i feel that the service representatives are only there to help. you have to see it from the advisors point-of-view. maybe he doesn't know about all the parts swapping that occurs in the world of honda performance. he is only required to know his product. truth be told, our jobs as advisors is not to fix the cars, we fix the customers. it is the technicians job to fix the cars. now on the technicians side, almost all honda technicians do not like to repair vehicles that have been modified in any way. it's not that they dont necessarily know how to repair it, but repairing a vehicle that has been altered in a way that honda did not intend can lead to oversights on the technicians part because he is not aware of the changes that you may have made. in this case, most dealserships would probably prefer that you did go see a specialist. sorry so long.

I would just like to say that I used to work at a toyota dealership in pa and they would beat the living **** out of the new cars and seriously abuse the used ones. The mechanics worked on a time per job basis...ie: it takes approx. 45 minutes (or so they say) to rotate/balance, oil and oil filter and spark plugs. The mechanics didn't get paid more than 45 minutes for the job so if they go over...they don't get paid. SOOO...they rush their asses off so that they get in more hours to cheat the system...the whole time doing shitty work on YOUR car. I hate dealerships

That reminds me of the time my friend Seth spun a bearing in his Civic. So they took it to the dealer ship where they bought it (where his mom works) the Honda Specialists look at they came back with a report saying that they didn't know what was wrong with his engine. How do U not know what is wronge with the engine if its your job to know whats wronge with it

what did you used to do at the dealership? were you an advisor? salesperson? porter? how can a dealership operate like that? it is true that flate-rate techs work fast, but it is in their best interest to perform quality work no matter how long it takes.

I was a service advisor/ porter/ mechanic (odd jobs). They ran a really shitty show after the original owner left. They seem to think that by making people return because of there shitty work they get more money...bad business. I know that all dealerships are not this way...I was venting

I will say that the suzuki dealership that is owned by the same people is run the same way...doom on me if they read this...slander and all that. The worst senario was when a dodge durango came in for the 4TH time with trans problems...they lady threatened to sue and the mechanics were very ignorant. They need to get a real manager that isn't greedy. I recomend Underground Performance for all your specialized needs or the Fox Marketing guys in Harrisburg in case your ever over on are side of the country
