Default Whats a smarter decision? build up D16y8 or swap for a stock B18C?

I was told by inline pro that a complete swap for a b18c1 would be about 5500 to 6500 installed. They said that all the parts included, most swaps bought on the internet would be missing parts and would end up costing that much if i bought the motor from other places.

Anyways, I think thats pretty damn expensive for a 170hp stock motor. I was thinking about buidling the D16y8 completey to get a reliable strong motor.

I was thinking

Skunk 2 valvetrain (valves, springs, retainers)
Crower turbo cam
JE turbo pistons
Crower rods
Darton pro sleeves
Skunk 2 intake manifold

That should be about little bit over 3k in parts and i wouldn't have to worry about missing parts or broken sensors. What do you guys think is a better route to go?

ya 3k for the parts, then the build cost money, and then removing and installling the engine cost money. you can save by doing it yourself, but then you could save buy doing the swap yourself.

i wouldn't build up a d-series, but thats me. cause after you build it, like it, want more, you'll have to swap anyway. so do a swap, like it, want more, and then build it.

if you want to save mony find someone trusted, get a real full swap, and drop it in yourself. you can also save by getting a ls. they have good response's to turbo, yet are much cheaper then the b18c.

now if it was me id get an h22, the bigger the better. i just happen to have one for sale, and at this point i need to get rid of it so im taking offers. it is apart right now for inspection, but i will be happy to reassemble it, w/new water/oil pump and timing belt. the link below will tell you more about the swap.

good luck w/whatever you do.

Go with what you have because it'll be cheaper. Once you get your block built, get a Hondata and larger injectors with a nice big T3/T4 and you could get 350-400whp.

Start off with the b18c and go from there...Its built for performance...Your motor is built for economy/performance...All of the DOHC vtec motors are "Race" motors in comparison to other honda motors...
The block is the key to a long lasting motor...

Umm..not really. Have you ever looked at a d16z or d16y8 bottom end? They have a full row girdle and are stout in construction even when compared to the b-series. You are replacing the internals so the internal construction of the block has a slight edge because of the factory full row girdle. Have you ever seen a dyno plot of a well tuned d16 engine? They make some nasty torque for a 1.6L. For a cheap, durable and fun street set-up that wont cost you an arm and leg go with the d16...its what i am doing with my GF EK hatch. It should be able to hit 11's pretty easily.
